Q-1: What is itbhuglobal.org?
ITBHUGlobal.org is the official website for the Alumni Association of the Institute of Technology, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi, India.
Q-2: How was the idea of new website started?
The idea was started around early 2007, when a group of alumni volunteers expressed the concern about lack of information exchange among IT-BHU community, including students /alumni /faculty /administration. Although the website itbhu.org existed, it was not functioning properly for the past few months. Part of the problem was that it (www.itbhu.org) was owned by an individual (and not by the organization), resulting is difficulty of accessing it for posting news or updating it frequently.
In contrast, the new site www.itbhuglobal.org is fully owned and registered in the name of our alumni organization (itbhuglobal.org) and not by any individual. Thus it gives full access to all the volunteers who want to work for it. This new website started functioning in July 2007.
Q-3: How is the itbhuglobal.org website updated?
ITBHUGlobal.org is published in a team effort. The work schedule includes, collecting info from the institute and faculty, scanning national/international news media for alumni/college news and finally uploading on the web server.
The uploading of articles on the server is by MoveableType Publishing program.
www.itbhuglobal.org also has many online modules like the alumni database and the forum aimed at bringing the alumni closer to each other and to the Institute. A team of alumni volunteers create, maintain and update these modules which are created with the help of Open Source software.
The website is viewed by about 6,000 members of IT-BHU Alumni Association as well as students/alumni from other engineering colleges.
Q-4: What is the publication policy of itbhuglobal.org?
ITBHUGlobal.org is the the website of the alumni association of IT BHU and would publish news which benefits of IT-BHU community - the students, the faculty, the alumni and the administration. It reflects the views of the alumni association.
The website plans to publish any news about alumni related activities, news, etc such as meeting, seminars, functions, institute news, etc. in real time fashion, i.e. as quick as possible. It will also contain sections such as discussion forums, job postings, volunteering efforts, etc. for which login or registration may be required.
Q-6: How does itbhuglobal.org compare with chronicle?
www.itbhuglobal.org is the website which would finally house The ITBHU Chronicle - the monthly newsletter of the organization.
Although both are published by IT-BHU alumni association and publish articles around alumni events and interests, they are in a different category. The ITBHUGlobal.org website acts as quick exchange of information for any news, events as it happens. The posting is not edited, but just moderated. The website is being updated daily.
On the other hand, the Chronicle is a monthly publication, with wide range of articles of interest to IT-BHU alumni as well as for general public. There is no two-way interaction with readers (except for letters to chronicle in feedback section). It is more like national level magazine and contents are edited for fairness and accuracy of news, neutral and unbiased reporting, etc. The articles include exhaustively prepared interview, science articles, etc. The magazine also searches a number of national and international newspapers & magazines for engineering education related news.
Q-7: What are itbhuglobal.org's future plans?
The future plans for our website include making it more useful to our alumni, providing with news and contents that alumni can rely on. We plan to update it frequently, at least in a week, to begin with. We also want to introduce more useful sections, job postings, discussion forums, etc.
