Prof. S. K. Kak appointed as new Vice-Chancellor of Meerut University [timesofindia.com]

LUCKNOW: Prof SP Ojha, vice-chancellor of Chaudhary Charan Singh University, Meerut, finally resigned from his post following a month long controversy after release of a CD which allegedly showed him taking a bribe.

Though no inquiry was done to verify the authenticity of the CD, Prof Ojha was reportedly asked to quit by the governor TV Rajeswar, who is also chancellor of the state universities.

The governor, said sources, was of the view that the person sitting on the post of vice-chancellor should be above all doubts.

However, the official press release issued by the Raj Bhawan said that governor has appointed Prof SK Kak, of the electronics and engineering department, institute of technology, Banaras Hindu University, as the new vice-chancellor of Meerut University following resignation of Prof Ojha.

The CD in question showed Prof Ojha sitting in a room and a person putting some money on the table.

As swollen Kosi river continued to wreak havoc, the flood situation remained grim in Bihar. More than 22 lakh people were hit by the deluge in four districts with over 3.5 lakh people already evacuated.

Our alumnus Rajesh Ranjan (Mechanical 2003) and his co-workers at BHEL, Hyderabad, have started fund raising efforts to help victims of Bihar flood. He is requesting the help of IT-BHU community to help them in their efforts.

His appeal to all of us is as follows:

"We all are aware about the deluge in Bihar. In this regard, we need to be of some help to the people suffering from the catastrophe.
Central govt., various state govts. and many other agencies have announced relief fund and contributions for this cause.

The contribution can be in any form: monetary, personal, blankets, medicines, arrangement for logistics, food grains etc.

We have talked to some big NGOs working towards this cause. People can send their contributions to below mentioned organisations.

"Limbdi Corner (LC) is the place where over steaming glasses of tea and endless servings of samosa and kachoris friends are made, relationships cemented, people meet, students revel in the present, alumni rejoice the past and freshers stop worrying about the future. LC is the place where hearts meet, whole events are decided and convened, impromptu meetings take place, a hundred songs get written, a thousand theatrics are performed, where a few hearts get broken. A lot happens over tea, at LC"
- Pablo

I found this resting nicely in the archives of the chronicle, and you know what, just the mention of IT BHU brings my heart out and freshens up the old memories of IT.

Not only it has given us an identity, but our alma mater was the second home for everyone. I still remember how people used to make excuses of tests and exams and postponed going home during diwali and December vacations.

Many a times while surfing through the net you must have come across articles/blogs by IT students or alumni. It surely gives a certain feel of nostalgia when you read the blogs / articles by other folks of IT. Essentially the story will be the same but it's a great feeling by reading them again and again. While thinking on these lines it suddenly hit me, that while we flaunt it everywhere - LinkedIn, Orkut, etc etc why is blog world devoid of the unity of IT Junta?

So to start this tradition we have started using these badges on our blogs which not only looks cool but gives out IT identity mark also.

The Button looks something like:

Instructions for installing it on your blog:

  • Blogger Gadget:
  • For Other Platforms:
    Title: ITBHU Blogger
    Code:
    <a href='http://alumni.itbhu.ac.in'> <img border='0' style='float:center' src='http://www.itbhuglobal.org/images/itbhu-alumni-button.PNG' title='ITBHU Alumni' alt='ITBHU Alumni' align='center' border='0'></a> <br/> <a style='color:#c30;' href='http://alumni.itbhu.ac.in/archives/2008/09/wear_the_pride.html'>Click Here to Wear the Pride</a>
  • Other Blogging Platforms: Please feel free to contact us if you have made a gadget for this logo for wordpress, myspace, etc.

We are also in process of making a listing of IT Bloggers here so that we can start our proceedings! Don't forget to mention your blog links in the comments

List of ITBHU Alumni Blogs:

The Alumni body at Bangalore is taking up an initiative to give scholarships to students at IT-BHU. This is a welcome move as from this year, as the fees for undergraduate (B. Tech.) study at our institute has nearly doubled to about Rs. 28,000 per year. The project will be called "Scholarships for IT-BHU Students".

Sumit Kumar Dey (Electrical 2004), volunteer for Bangalore Chapter is the point of contact for the scholarship initiative. He can be contacted at: sumitkrdey @ gmail.com .
All of our alumni are requested to donate generously for this noble efforts being done by our Bangalore Chapter.
