Dear all,
IT BHU Global Alumni association in collaboration with the faculty members and students of IT BHU has launched an online petition.
We petition the Honorable Vice Chancellor of the University to support the conversion of IT BHU to an IIT.
The petition is available at http://www.petitiononline.com/iitbhu/petition.html
We would like to submit the petition to the VC and the members of the BHU Executive Committee as soon as we reach 5000 signatures. Please sign the petition to support the cause and help us spread the word to friends and supporters of IT BHU.
This petition replaces the petition that we had launched a few days ago and thus we request you to sign this petition even if you had signed the earlier one.
Regards,
Volunteers,
ITBHU Global Alumni Association
Note: You can view the existing signatures here.
Note 2: Thanks to those who have commented on this page showing their support. However, please note that you also need to sign the online petition, so we can have all the responses in one place.
It is high time that IT-BHU is converted into an IIT. That is the best way to attract more research grants and higher caliber researchers.
May 3, 2009 9:29 PMIt is high time that the academic insitutions of India are taken out of beauracratic and political whims & fancies. This control has only resulted in eroding knowledge society of the country by pathetic academic staff remunerations and research orientations. The small number of patents filed by IITs as compared to foreign univs, or indigineous technology commercialised, is startling facts in front of us.
IT-BHU is one of the pioneer institutes which has maintained quality since its begining. If the government cant upgrade it to IIT due to financial or political reasons then IT-BHU fraternity can propose to invest money to convert good institutions as IITs (like ITBHU) as private-public venture. PPP will improve the academic policies, staff and research based programs in IIT-V and any other new IITs under PPP.
I support this petition. The transformation has been long awaited.
May 4, 2009 5:03 AMI Support this petition strongly!
The transformation has been long awaited.
The engineers and scientists produced by IT-BHU are doing a fantastic job world over, thanks to our faculty and resources.
It is clear that IITians enjoy their brand value in terms of placements/recognitions and in getting additional funds for R&D. We deserve the same treatment.
BHU has to find a way to support our Institute and assure its further success via this transformation process.
What are the concerns of BHU and our HR ministry? If it is finances, can the alumni help?
May 4, 2009 8:35 AMThe conversion was announced and students have joined with that promise. It needs to be delivered now.
May 5, 2009 7:42 PMThis is imperative for IT-BHU to continue on its path of progress. Kindly give IT-BHU what it rightfully deserves. Kindly give it its due!
May 7, 2009 5:45 AMThe conversion is absolutely essential to realise the dream of Malviyaji. The institution he built brick by brick cannot by allowed to be decayed. It has always been and should continue to be at the top. I strongly support the petition.
May 10, 2009 11:01 PMYes, I support this petition. It is high time this is done, specially when other institutions are getting that status. Even new ones without the infrastructure matching that of IT-BHU, are being created as IITs.
May 14, 2009 7:05 AMIT-BHU should be converted into IIT in near future to keep the quality of students and academia intact.
May 15, 2009 1:02 PMIf IT, BHU is not converted to IIT, the quality of students that we get in near future will be after all IITs and even NITs and it is very difficult to teach those type of students. Hence, it is high time IT, BHU should be converted to an IIT. PKM
May 15, 2009 6:49 PMThis is a sheer need, primarily because the country/society cannot afford to let one of its best infrastructure remain not utilised, which would soon be the case with not so good faculty/students choosing to be the future people of IT-BHU family some years from now.
May 16, 2009 5:58 AMFor maintaining the quality edge in S & T education in the country, IT-BHU should have been re-named IIT Banaras decades ago - much much before formation of IITs at Guwahati and Roorkee. Now when the IIT tag is under distribution and there are as many as n( ... don't remember how many)IITs, although the tag will not enhance the edge/value of IT-BHU, it will definitely help by way of (a)elimination of feeling of being left out, (b) grants for better equipments and facilities and (c)and further quality improvements by better teacher/student input/output.
May 21, 2009 7:27 AMArjun Singh is not included in the new government. This could be a serious blow to our IIT campaign.
May 22, 2009 6:40 PMSuggest some senior committee members quickly get in touch with Kapil Sibal to help prioritise this issue for the new govt. Any senior alumni (or their family members) having good connections with Mr. Sibal should help seniors like Yogesh touch base with KS at the earliest.
May 22, 2009 7:51 PMIn my opinion, IT-BHU meets IIT standard of engineering & technology in all aspects. IT-BHU is serving our country in bigger way compared to IIT Kh to some extent and IIT-K/D/M/C to great extent. If government think tank try to analyse the background of “biggies” riding the growing Indian industries, they will definitely come to know our alumni’s contribution to Indian growth story. Why it is so!!, because, most of the ITiens joined Centre Govt, PSUs & Private Companies in India & escalated to higher levels along with their respective employers. Fortunately or unfortunately, very few ITiens got full GRE scholarship for higher studies in USA. So, they remain in India & flourish the Indian Industry. Thus, who should have IIT tag? ------- Our institute with inbuilt IIT fragrance or any other engineering college!!!! Let us hope best & pray for justice.
May 27, 2009 9:57 PMyes ,i totally agree with d petition n support it fully.i am hoping dat it will be cnverted to iit in few months
May 30, 2009 1:55 PMLet parents/Guardians also sign the new petition as they also feel involved in your persistent efforts for a right cause.
All THE BEST!
I support the conversion, and it should be done quickly. Any updates on that?
June 4, 2009 4:11 PMFriends,
We have been lucky that one again Manmohan Singh government has come into power. We should contact the BHU VC to get into action to talk to MHRD to get their confirmation as around what time line IT, BHU can be coverted to IIT. We all have worked so hard to get IIT status, we should not loose hope now and contact BHU VC and MHRD again asap, to full-fill their promise.
Thanks,
Sjain

June 23, 2009 1:26 AMAny active member of Global Alumni may update the status of conversion of IT-BHU to an IIT.The efforts from Alumni,Students,Parents,Faculty and BHU administration will make dream true.Proposal for IT act amendment will be placed in July 2009 parliament session for 8 new IITs. We should see that IT-BHU is included in amended IT Act for conversion to an IIT.
June 23, 2009 7:26 AMThe 100 days agenda of the New HRD minister does not have any mention of either IT BHU conversion or the Institute of Technology (amendment) bill.

July 15, 2009 9:25 AM
The conversion of IT-BHU is long overdue. In my opinion, IT-BHU meets or exceeds the IIT standard of engineering & technology education in India. I strongly support the conversion of IT-BHU to an IIT.
