Wish you a very happy and a prosperous new year.
The year 2009 was a very important year in our alumni associations history. This year the association took many steps to put a structure around the hither to amorphous structure of the association while under taking multiple efforts to bring alumni and the Institute closer.
Global Organization. The organization initiated the creation of Council of Representatives where each class (ECE 79 or MEC 84 etc) nominated one representative to the council. The representatives are the bridge between the organization and the alumni. The Council of Representatives then elected the Board of Directors. The term of Board of Directors is for two years. The Board of Directors has the Director of ITBHU, the Faculty incharge of Alumni Affairs and a student representative as ex-officio members of the Board of Directors.
Indian organization. IT BHU Global Alumni Association opened a registered office in Varanasi, India. The office will be housed in the Institute and would function with the help and support of the alumni association as well as the Institute. This entity is required to handle fund collection and for transferring funds from the US organization to India so that projects can be handled in a streamlined manner.
Events. 2009 was the Silver Jubilee year for the Class of 1984 who celebrated their reunion on campus during the last week of Decmber '09. Chapters in various regions organized local events - Silicon Valley chapter organized Holi meet and a Family picnic in November. There was an alumni get together organized by the New Jersey chapter and the Bangalore chapters. AIBA - the alumni association in Delhi organized its annual meet in May and the annual dinner in December.
Projects. ITBHUGlobal coordinated and executed a couple of projects this year
- IIT Conversion. The alumni association worked hand in hand with the Institute to push for the IIT conversion effort. This project saw more than Rs 7,00,000 raised to support students and faculty during their visit to New Delhi in a matter of 2 weeks. In addition, volunteers from the alumni association constantly kept in touch with people in MHRD and are continuing to do so.
- Publication Scholarships. 2009 was the first year where the alumni association rolled out scholarships for 5 undergraduate students who published most research papers at all levels. The papers were weighted based on the impact factor of the conference or the publications - International conferences and reputed journals had the most weight.
- International Travel. Alumni Association also provided support for travel of 2 faculty members for international travel for international conferences.
Many other things happened in the community - alumni scaled newer hights in their professional lives while some alumni left for the heavenly abode. The Institute took steps required to position itself for the ever increasing challenges of educating an ever increasing number of students while improving its research and consultancy portfolio. The ITBHU Chronicle - the monthly news letter covered all the happenings and brought it to you regularly. Chronicle is available online at www.itbhuglobal.org/chronicle
As we step in 2010 - there are many more things from the side of the alumni association which need to be put in place and much more support requried from the alumni, student and faculty to keep the organization growing and building the necessary structures to connect the Global ITBHU Community and to provide support the initiatives that the Institute undertakes to become the leader in technical education.
