We are happy to announce the results of the elections for the board of directors for the ITBHU Global Alumni Association (India). The details of the votes cast are available at http://www.itbhuglobal.org/elections/pollingbooth/?q=node/7. Polling closed at 23:59 IST on July 25, 2011.

The election process allows only one director per state, with a max of 6 directors. Since the two candidates from Andhra Pradesh secured the same number of votes (5th highest), the election team had a discussion with them, upon which Arup Guha withdrew, with a promise to help the board as a volunteer.

The final list of board members is therefore as follows:

  1. Swati Agrawal, B.Tech Civil Engineering 1998, Pune
  2. Subramaniam Vaidhyanathan, B.Tech Chemical 1982, Chennai
  3. Puneet Bindlish, B.Tech Mining 2002, Gurgaon
  4. Arvind Gupta, B.Tech Electronics Engineering 1992, New Delhi
  5. Sudip Paul, M.Tech Biomedical Engineering 2009, Kolkata
  6. Rajat Kashyap, B.Tech Electrical Engineering 2006, Hyderabad

More details about each of them can be found at http://www.itbhuglobal.org/archives/2011/07/itbhu_alumni_association_india.html

We wish them the very best of luck. Additionally, we thank all alumni for participating, and all candidates for taking an active role. We hope they will also join the team of volunteers coordinating the activities of the alumni association in India.

nprasad.jpgWe sadly inform the demise of Professor NISHTALA PRASAD of Metallurgy Department of IT - BHU, Varanasi, India. He accidentally slipped in the bathroom and expired due to excessive bleeding. This could be noticed only on Jul 19 when police was informed on noticing that Prof. Prasad did not respond to doorbell and calls.

He was a very entertaining, jovial, cheerful and an easy going person - an excellent flute player and a cricketer of high quality. He is one of the doctoral students of Professor P Rama Rao and had worked on Low Stress Creep of Zirconium and Zircalloy, materials that are of extreme importance to Nuclear Field. He was the only son of Late Dr. N Narasimhan, Renowned Radiophysicist of BARC and DRDO's first RAC Chairman.

We join the family and Prof. Prasad's Wife - Smt. N Vijayalakshmi in this sad hour and pray to God to rest his soul in peace.

Here is more information about them

Andhra Pradesh -- Arup Guha, B.Tech Civil Engineering 2005, Hyderabad

Arup Guha.jpg

To give a brief introduction about myself, I am a Civil Engineering graduate from IT-BHU (Class of ’05) and have subsequently done my PGDM in Marketing from IMT Ghaziabad. I am working as a Functional Consultant with one of the IT majors in India and currently based out of Hyderabad.

Besides work, what keeps me busy is blogging, music and leisure travel. Generally, I write on Travel destinations as well as Movies. Besides, at a professional level, I write on Business Process Management.

I really feel privileged to be a part of this elite community and I still remember the first few words of our director, honorary Dr. B.N. Roy, who was also officiating as H.O.D. of Civil Engineering department, when we joined. “We all belong to a community which is an aspiration of every wannabe engineer in this country. We are the Crème de la crème.” That’s what his entire speech was all about. Gradually, a bond, even stronger than a covalent bond, started forming with each and every entity within that ecosystem, be it Room No. 122 of Limbdi or Lalu’s mess in DG or even Maggie Point at Hyderabad Gate.

It is common wisdom that besides other factors, Alumni is the face of any institute. Most of us, due to some reason or the other, are not able to keep in touch beyond a certain set of people at a personal level. This initiative by IT-BHU Global Alumni Association (IBGAA), is the first step in creating what I feel as IBGAA 2.0.

Karnataka -- Sumit Thakur, B. Tech Electrical Engineering 2007, Bangalore

 SumitThakur.JPG

I graduated from IT-BHU in the year 2007 with a B.Tech. in Electrical Engineering. I’m an engineer by education, a technology-cum-business analyst by profession, an extrovert by character, a foodie by interest, a perfectionist by passion and a firm believer in mentoring and leadership.

The EEE department is known for its versatile course offerings in fields ranging from computer science to core electrical engineering. I started out as an ardent follower of “core” but after my 2 months summer internship with Goldman Sachs (its first summer intern batch at Bangalore office :)), I ended up joining the firm in summers of 2007. Right now I’m working with the firm as a Senior Analyst in the “Business Selection and Conflicts Resolution” team under Compliance Technology division.

I’m currently doing my bit in serving our beloved alma matter as Dy. Director, External Affairs of the global alumni organization (itbhuglobal.org). Recently, I have been closely involved in moderating/answering counseling related queries from the JEE 2011 candidates on the FAQ forum created by our alumni. The forum attracted 3000+ views and 100+ comments in just 2 weeks. I’m also serving as a volunteer for the website group of our alumni organization.

But we still have a lot to do to ensure that we live up to the IIT tag that has been earned by the tremendous hard work and perseverance of our illustrious alumni community. I’m personally interested in putting well organized efforts for the brand building of our institute. A place in the India BOD is, I believe, a way forward to cement the tie between the efforts of local alumni volunteers and the leadership and vision of our global alumni body.

I can be reached online on Facebook and LinkedIn
