The concept/idea of a Model Development Center originated due to the prime reasons such as:

• Lack of component availability in Varanasi, or if available the ridiculous price asked by the 2-3 vendors there.

• Lack of any time available laboratory equipment such as CROs, function generators, breadboards, microcontroller kits.

• Duplicity of work being done by one batch after another, all of them going through the same procedure of experimenting and learning without any knowledge maintenance.

• No common source of information for electronics enthusiasts to solve their problems and to know how to proceed and develop their ideas.

How it developed

For past couple of batches, senior EcE students (Ajit Sharma (2000), Rajiv Srivastava (1999), Nitin Mohan (1999), Milind Gupta (2003) and others) had organized mega Electronic Workshops for promoting hardware projects in annual techfest (TECHNEX) which had seen constant decrease in the number of hardware projects on display. Most of the time students loaned Digital Integrated Circuits Lab on their own responsibility (thanks to Prof. Anand Mohan because of whose support this became possible). The workshops were huge success and were able to attract number of students for first and second year. This exercise also imparts long term effect as I have seen many students taking part in workshops finally ended up pursuing excellent careers in different areas of Electronics.

Since obtaining the lab is always difficult is surely a big responsibility, it promoted an idea of students' having their own lab.

Finally with the efforts of extremely enthusiastic students this became possible. Department offered a separate room with basic stock of equipment and components to the students of EcE. Students access it anytime they want and can use it in anyway the prefer. Responsibility of keeping, developing and maintaining it lies with students.
