Association of IT BHU Alumni (AIBA) is the nodal organisation of the alumni of Institute of Technology, Banaras Hindu University. Our Association is a non-profit organisation, and has a wide representation from our alumni senior officials from the government, public, and private sectors, and from various industry fora.

The activities of the association centre around our efforts to improve quality of the technical education, viz., institute-industry participation, and alumni participation in education; we also maintain a network of alumni through various events and programs.

We are in the process of publishing a souvenir of the AIBA for the year 2009. The souvenir would contain interesting articles and stories contributed by the alumni in addition to messages from senior and important alumni who have done the institution proud by reaching the pinnacle of success in their chosen areas.

We solicit advertisements from your organisation for printing in this souvenir.

The souvenir is planned to be released alongwith the 7th Annual General Meeting, which is planned to be held on 23.05.2009. The souvenir will be circulated among all our alumni, many of whom are senior officials in the corporate world. The star-studded evening witnessed the 3rd Annual Awards of Excellence, 2009 being bestowed upon five of IT-BHU's distinguished alumni under various categories. They were:

Shri Kewal Nohria,
We are pleased to confer the distinguished IT-BHU Alumni Life Time Achievement Award 2009 On him for his outstanding contribution in the field of Technology and Management. Shri Nohria, born in 1932, is a Graduate in Electrical Engineering (1954 batch) from BENCO, Banaras Hindu University. After his graduation from BHU, he proceeded to UK on a scholarship from GEC of UK for training in Switchgear at Manchester. While at Manchester he pursued his studies in Management at Manchester College of Technology. After his return to India, he has been associated with Electrical Industry all through and held various responsible positions with companies like Crompton Greaves, Cutler Hammer, Shriram Group of Industries. His last assignment was as Chairman and Managing Director of Crompton Greaves. During his career he held various responsible positions with Industry Associations. He is the former Chariman IEEMA, CII Western Region, ERDA, INVEST, President of Bombay Chamber of Industry, President, ASSOCHAM.Presently he is the Chairman of Thapar University at Patiala, Board Member of IIM, Indore. He also chairs the Board of Promotion of Quality under QCI.He is also promoter Chairman of Fontus Water Ltd., Aventura Components Pvt. Ltd. EAW Pvt. Ltd, Coreel Technologies Pvt. Limited and Cologix Solutions Limited.Shri Nohria is a recipient of Hon. Fellowship from AIMA and INVEST, Life Time Achievement Award for HRD. He is a Fellow Member of Institute of Electrical Engineers, U.K.The Association feels proud to have conferred the honour of IT-BHU Alumni Life Time Achievement Award 2009 on Shri Kewal Nohria.

Mr. Satish Kumar Agarwal,
Chairman & Managing Director,Kamdhenu Ispat Limited
Mr. Agarwal, a graduate in Mechanical Engineering from BENCO, Banaras Hindu University has distinguished himself as a man of caliber, dynamism and enthusiasm, when he floated Kamdhenu Ispat Limited in 1994 and took over as its Chairman & Managing Director.Prior to that, he was Partner, Arya Krishi Yantra Udyog Shala, (1970-1974), Director, Muzaffarnagar Refractories Pvt. Ltd. (1974-1986). Managing Director, Vikas Refractories Pvt. Ltd. (1986-1994). During his outstanding career, Mr. Agarwal is one of the outstanding Chief Executives of the Steel Industry of India today. Under the leadership of Shri Agarwal, the Company received the prestigious ISO-9001:2000 and KIL started its journey from single steel manufacturing units in Bhiwadi a decade back, now having more than 50 Franchisee units located across the country. Mr. Satish Kumar Agarwal also setup a state of the art manufacturing unit for Paints under brand name "Colour Dreamz" in the year 2008.The Association feels proud to have conferred the honour of Award of Excellence on its Alumni for the year 2008-09, particularly in the field of Management and Entrepreneurship.

Mr. Arbind Kumar,
Chairman & Managing Director,National Projects Construction Corporation Limited
Mr. Arbind Kumar, a graduate from Institute of Technology, Banaras Hindu University (1978) and Post Graduate from IIT, Delhi has distinguished himself when he took over as Chairman & Managing Director of National Project Construction Corporation Limited (NPCC), a Chronically Sick Public Sector Undertaking and turned around the company a profit making one within a short span of one year.SCOPE, an apex body of PSUs short listed NPCC amongst two best PSUs for "SCOPE Excellence Award" in special institutional category during 2005-06 and 2006-07.Mr. Arbind Kumar was also sponsored for IITD Alumni Association Excellence Award for National Development during 2006-07.Prior to that Shri Kumar has worked in various capacities such as Management Traineer, EPI (1979), Jr. Project Engineer, EPI, (1980-82), Manager, RITES ( 1983), Dy. General Manager, RITES ( 1988-93), Joint General Manager, RITES (1993-95) and Additional General Manager, RITES ( 1995-97) etc.The Association feels proud to have conferred the honour of Award of Excellence on its Alumni for the year 2008-09, particularly in the field of Management and Development.

Mr. Sridhar Manthani,
Sr. Director,NVidia Graphics
Mr. Manthani, a graduate in Electronics from Institute of Technology, Banaras Hindu University (1982) and MSEE from University of Iowa, has distinguished himself when he joined NVidia Graphics as its first employee and currently Nvidia in India has 700 employees. He built Nvidia India from Scratch and developed complete high performance chips from end to end out of India. These chips are shipping Millions of units and are being used in most Laptops and Desktop PCs from companies like Apple, HP, Dell.Prior to this, Mr. Manthani has worked on Graphics processors. He was part of the initial team in a startup called S3, Inc. He started S3's design centre in India and grew that team as Managing Director of S3-India. He did the first windows accelerator when Microsoft introduced window operating system in 1990. He was part of growing the business to 500 million USD. He Founded and started Thinkit Technologies Incorporated in California and India. This company worked on highly integrated Ethernet switch chips. Sold the company to Intel in 2000.Mr. Manthani has donated through his company large quantity of computer hard wares/servers to IT-BHU. and has pledged personal donation of Rs. 500,000 for project for IT BHU.The Association feels proud to have conferred the honour of Award of Excellence on its Alumni for the year 2008-09, particularly in the field of VLSI Design and Entrepreneurship.

Dr. S.K. Maini,
Founder, Maini Group
We are pleased to confer the distinguished IT-BHU Alumni Life Time Achievement Award 2009 On him for his outstanding contribution in the field of Technology and Management. Dr. Maini is a graduate in Mechanical Engineering from BENCO, Banaras Hindu University (1954). He started his career as Covenanted Officer & Production Administrator, Guest Keen Williams Ltd ( 1958-1963), General Works Manager, Precision Fasterners Limited ( 1965-67), General Production Manager, MICO-BOSCH (1967-73).Dr. Maini started Maini Industrial Consultants in 1973 which for first 10 years did lot of consultive assignment and now looks after various assignments of Maini Group.He also started Maini Precision products as a single unit with 10 people in Bangalore, which is now converted into Maini Group spanning over 14 locations in and around Bangalore having 2500 highly trained workforce. The group is involved in manufacturing precision automotive and aerospace components which are supplying mostly to Europe and America. In 1985 the group started for the first time in India battery operated zero pollution in-plant material handling equipment under the name of Maini Materials Movement.Dr. Maini hs relinquished from his business activities in 2008 and his present whole time activities include, Value Education, Rural Upliftment in India, Environment - Improvement of Climate Change and Environment.The Association feels proud to have conferred the honour of IT-BHU Alumni Life Time Achievement Award 2009 on Dr. S.K. Maini

Dear Alumnus,
Banaras Hindu University was the first university in the country to offer integrated engineering courses, since the turn of the last century, through its colleges, viz., Benaras Engineering College (BENCO), College of Technology (TECHNO) and College Mining and Metallurgy (MIN-MET), which were combined together in 1968 as Institute of Technology, Banaras Hindu University. For almost a hundred years now, BHU has been producing graduates in various engineering disciplines, and its graduates have contributed to the building up of technical & social infrastructure in the country post independence.
As a means to the recognise the contributions of these alumni, our association has decided to honour "Significant Contributor" every year from amongst the engineering alumni of Banaras Hindu University, on the occasion of its Annual General Body Meeting. The selection of the Significant Contributor would be through an eminent jury and comprising our own alumni in part and a group of eminent, independent personalities from the industry.
To make this a meaningful and well recognised affair, we need your help in identifying the alumni who you feel could be deserving candidates for this prestigious award which would be conferred in the presence of a very senior public figure on the occasion of our AGM in May,2009 at the Airforce Auditorium, Subroto Park, Delhi. We therefore request you to please help us by nominating possible candidates in the format given below. Once we get your nominations, the names along with contact details would be passed onto the Jury who would, in turn, send the nomination forms designed to gather relevant information.
