The star-studded evening witnessed the 4th Annual Awards of Excellence, 2010 being bestowed upon six of IT-BHU's distinguished alumni under various categories. They were:

Shri Mahendra K. Modi,
Association of IT-BHU Alumni, New Delhi is pleased to confer the IT-BHU Alumni Life Time Achievement Award 2009-10 On Shri Mahendra K. Modi for his outstanding contributions in the field of Management and Entrepreneurship. . Shri Mahendra K Modi, born on 17th May, 1944 graduated in Chemical Engineering (1965) from Banaras Hindu University and completed the "Managing International Collaboration" course from Harvard University, USA (1994). The distinguished Alumnus Award by Society of Chemical Engineers, Deptt. Of Chemical Engineering & Technology, Banaras Hindu University was conferred on him in 1987. The Degree of Doctor of Science was conferred on him Honoris Causa, by Ch. Charan Singh University, Meerut in 1996.

He is the Chairman of Group MKM, Chairman, Radici Plastic Modi Limited, Managing Director of Modi Industries Ltd, Chairman & Managing Director of Modipon Ltd., Chairman, Ram Charitable Trust, President, Federation of UP Chamber of Commerce & Industry and Chief Patron, IME, Sahibabad.

Shri Modi is the past President of Indo-American Chamber of Commerce, Association of Synthetic Fibres Industry, Indian Vanaspati Producers' Association, Western U.P. Chamber of Commerce and Industry and CII Northern Regional Council.

He has been nominated as Member of various institutions and organizations from time to time which includes Board of Governors of IIM Lucknow, Board of Governors of IIT, Kanpur, Board of UP State Industrial Development Corporation, Executive Council, Chaudhary Charan Singh University, Meerut, All India Board of Undergraduate studies in Engineering and Technology and UP Postal Advisory, Lucknow, etc.

Association of IT-BHU Alumni, New Delhi is pleased to confer the distinguished IT-BHU Alumni Life Time Achievement Award 2009-10 On Shri Deepak Pahwa
for his outstanding contributions in the field of Entrepreneurship, Management and Development of HVAC

Shri Deepak Pahwa, born on 8th July, 1947, graduated in Electrical Engineering (1969) from Banaras Hindu University. He is the Managing Director of Bry-Air (Asia) Pvt. Ltd. and the Group Chairman, Pahwa Enterprises.

Shri Pahwa is a fellow of ASHRAE (American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Airconditioning Engineers) and serves on several technical committees. He is a life member of ASHRAE. Shri Pahwa has always promoted the cause of technology innovation and knowledge dissemination. He has taken the initiative to institute the "Bry-Air Awards for Excellence in HVAC&R" to encourage innovative systems and product designs. He has presented several technical papers on various aspects of Air Engineering at various international forums and has been a member of several trade delegations to USA, Canada, Korea and Japan and has addressed gatherings on the investment climate and doing business with India.

Pahwa Enterprises is a rapidly growing industrial group in India and employs about 800 persons. It is a group of six engineering companies with plants in India, with wholly owned subsidiaries in Malaysia, China and Germany. Bry-Air Asia is the first and only Indian HVAC company to have made an acquisition overseas acquiring A+H, Hamburg, a leading dehumidifier manufacturer in Germany. They have offices in Japan, Korea, Thailand, Indonesia, Philippines, Turkey, Europe, South Africa, Australia and UAE, apart from the nine offices in India.

He has been the team leader of the Company's research group and his prime focus has been on innovation, research and developmental activities. He has over 30 years of experience in engineering and marketing of HVAC&R Airgineering & Environmental Control Technologies. Shri Pahwa has several publications and patents to his credit.

Shri Shriprakash Shukla,
President - Wireless, Reliance Communications Ltd & Subsidiaries/Associates

Association of IT-BHU Alumni, New Delhi is pleased to confer the distinguished IT-BHU Alumni Award of Excellence-2009 On Shri Shriprakash Shukla for his outstanding contribution in the field of Wireless Mobile Communication and Management.

Shri Shriprakash Shukla, born on 3rd October, 1959, is a Graduate in Chemical Engineering, Institute of Technology, Banaras Hindu University and MBA (Finance & Marketing) from IIM, Ahmedabad.

He is currently President - Wireless, Reliance Communications Ltd & Subsidiaries/Associates. He was Director, Reliance Telecom Ltd, Chairman, Reliance Wimax Ltd., and Director, WorldTel Holdings Ltd., UK.

Shri Shukla has several awards and honours to his credit including the Golden Peacock Award for Innovative Product & Services (2003) by the Institute of Directors, Innovative Award for Billing in International Telecom Forum (2007), Most Creative Advertisement in Personal Durable Category by Indian School of Communications, Pune (2008), Most Trusted Service Brand - Reliance Mobile (Economic Times Survey, 2009).

Under his stewardship, Reliance Communications became No.1 company of the year in 2009 in broadband service, based on revenue, at Voice and Data, 100 Award Function at Delhi. The company had also received the Largest Integrated Telecom Network Operator Award at INFOCOM CMAI National Telecom Award Function, 2009.

Shri Shukla has been invited to speak at several international forums such as Global Prepaid Conference, 2005, World CDMA Operators Conference 2006, International Convergence Seminar 2009.

He has written several articles on Development of Telecom Infrastructure in India and has been interviewed for hundreds of television programmes, newspaper and magazine articles on different infrastructure issues of national significance as well as on achieving major milestones in telecom sector.

Prof. Pankaj Chandra,
Director,IIM Bangalore.
Association of IT-BHU Alumni, New Delhi is pleased to confer the distinguished IT-BHU Alumni Award of Excellence 2009-10 On Prof. Pankaj Chandra for his outstanding contribution in the field of Teaching, Research and Academic Management.

Prof. Pankaj Chandra, born on 28th February, 1960, is a graduate in Mining Engineering from Institute of Technology, Banaras Hindu University (1983), and Ph.D. in Operations Management from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, U.S.A. (1983)

Prof. Pankaj Chandra presently is the Director & Professor, Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore.

His own field of specialization is Operations Management, Manufacturing Management, Supply Chain Coordination, Building Technological Capabilities and Hi-tech Entrepreneurship.

He was the Chairperson, Doctoral Programme, Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (2003-2005), Visiting Professor, Johnson Graduate School of Management, Cornell University, Ithaca, USA, International University of Japan, Nigata, Japan, Associate Dean (Academic Affairs & Post Graduate Programme) and Professor, Indian School of Business, Hyderabad, Chairperson, Centre for Innovation, Incubation and Entrepreneurship, Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad, Associate Professor of Operations Management - Faculty of Management, McGill University, Montreal, Canada. He was also visiting professor at many national and international universities.
He is the recipient of Distinguished Alumni Award, Institute of Technology, Banaras Hindu University, Best Student Paper Award, Delaware Valley, ORSA/TIMS Student Paper Contest, (1986), Philadelphia, U.S.A., AIME/SME Scholastic Achievement Award, University of Alaska, USA (1984), J.N. Tata Scholar (National Merit Award, (1983-84), University Merit Scholarship, (1981-1982).

His courses and teaching quality scores consistently rated among the top 5 per cent both at IIMA and McGill. OM courses taught by him ranked highest in the DMA program, Universite de Geneve, (1991), International University of Japan, (2003-2004), Cornell University, (2004).

Mr. Jaswinder Singh Ahuja,
Corporate Vice President and Managing Director,Cadence Design Systems, India.
Association of IT-BHU Alumni, New Delhi is pleased to confer the distinguished IT-BHU Alumni Award of Excellence-2009 On Shri Jaswinder Singh Ahuja for his outstanding contribution in the field of Information Technology and Management.

Shri Jaswinder Singh Ahuja, born on 19th November 1963, is a Graduate in EcE, Institute of Technology, Banaras Hindu University (1986) and MS, Computer Engineering, Northeastern University, Boston, USA (1988) and Executive MBA, Stanford University, USA (2001).

He is currently the Corporate Vice President and Managing Director, Cadence Design Systems, India. Shri Ahuja started his career at Cadence Design Systems in 1988. Since 1996, he has led the Cadence India Operations as it Managing Director. Under his leadership, Cadence grew from a 120-person R&D operation to over 900 employees in R&D, sales and support, services and various other functions. In 2000, Cadence promoted him to a Corporate Vice President and since then he has led Cadence's globalization effort establishing R&D centers in Russia, China and Taiwan, in addition to India. Under his able leadership, Cadence India has featured on DQ-IDC's Top 20 Best Employers List from 2002-2007 and Cadence Russia has featured on Hewitt Associates' Top 10 Employers in Russia List in 2008.

He is active in various industry forums like VLSI Society of India, VLSI Design Conferences, India Semiconductor Association and has played a very active role in industry-academia-government partnership to promote advanced study and research in the field of semiconductor design and EDA. He has established an employee-led and organizationally supported CSR initiative at Cadence called "Make a Child Smile" which has built an orphanage, schools and supported numerous other programmes for underprivileged children.

He is a featured speaker on the topics of globalization, organizational development and leadership and in the field of semiconductors in national and international conferences. He regularly speaks at premier events in India, USA, Europe and Asia.

Shri R.G. Rajan,
Chairman & Managing Director, Projects & Development India Limited.
Association of IT-BHU Alumni, New Delhi is pleased to confer the distinguished IT-BHU Alumni Award of Excellence-2009 On Shri R.G. Rajan for his outstanding contribution in the field of Chemical Engineering and Project Management.

Shri R.G. Rajan, born on 26th September 1957, is a Graduate in Chemical Engineering, Institute of Technology, Banaras Hindu University and MBA, Strathclyde Business School, Glasgow, U.K.

He is currently Chairman & Managing Director, Projects & Development India Limited. Shri Rajan has 28 years of experience in the field of Conceptual Design, Process Design and Project Management. His areas of expertise include Gas Pipelines, LPG Pipelines, Gas Processing Plants, Petro-chemicals, Refineries, Fertilizers, etc. During his tenure in Engineers India Limited, he handled various Refinery Projects. During his 21 years service in GAIL, he was involved in implementation of a number of cross country pipelines including HBJ pipeline, upgradation projects, seven gas proceesing plants, 2 LPG pipelines including the world's longest, exclusive Jamnagar -Loni LPG pipeline and the Petrochemical Complex at Pata and its subsequent expansion.

In PDIL he provided major thrust to the activities of the Consultancy Organization. During his stewardship, the turnover of the company and the profits have increased by more than 50% in the last two years.

He has to his credit several publications including "Technical Aspect of City Gas Distribution", "Emerging Opportunities for Consultants in City Gas Distribution", "Petcoke for Ammonia Production - Economic and Technical issues", "Revamp of Nitrogenous Fertilizer Plants - Concepts to Execution", "Quality Management Initiatives in PDIL", etc.

The Association feels proud to have conferred the Award of Excellence on Shri Rajan for the year 2009-10, particularly in the field of Chemical Engineering and Project Management.
