Banaras, a Mystic Love Story
Chronicle Editor @ Nov 11, 2005

Report by: Pankaj Yadav [CSE '05]

On 27th March 2005, when everyone in ITBHU was pulling his/her socks up for the best Kashiyatra as yet, there was one more team working hard for projecting Banaras to Indian Film Industry.

As my class gang was about to leave for Swatantra Bhawan on the last day of KY-05, we heard about news of “Urmila at VT”. However, it took us some time to realize that Urmila in this context was none other then Urmila Matondkar, who was at VT along with the shooting unit.

Within a few minutes, we were at the shooting spot, watching Urmila & Asmit getting ready for a small scene that involved walking on the grass (inside Temple boundary). It was worth noticing that the whole process, which lasted for about 15-20 minutes, was completed in very calm and glitch free manner despite the presence of large student crowd.

Those were some nice moments for us and before leaving the spot we were also successful in capturing few stills to keep with us.

The name of this movie is Banaras- A mystic Love Story and it is expected to release very soon. So guys, be ready to visit Lanka, Assi, Sarnath etc. on BIG screen!

It is worth mentioning that this movie is produced by Mr. L. C. Singh, an ITBHU alumnus (Chemical 1970), President and CEO at Nihilent Technologies. He has also contributed to the script. Reportedly, another BHU alumnus has written lyrics for this movie.

We are also pleased to receive the following message from our alumnus and the producer of the movie Banaras, which is reproduced as follows:

Dear Friends,

This communication is to announce the completion of the film Banaras, a Mystic Love Story which has been almost entirely shot in the city which still lingers in our heart. This is a film capable of transforming lives. The effect of Banaras on the crew and the stars was total. Stars like Urmila Matondkar, Dimple, Naseeruddin Shah and Raj Babbar were completely stuck by the spiritual feel of the city, and it all shows in the film.

There is all the nostalgia that you would expect to find. Your Vishwanath temple where we used to line up in the exam period, the central library, the Academy of Fine Arts, Science College and roads inside the campus.

There is all the glory of the north bound Ganges, Sarnath and Kabir Math etc.
The film is slated to be released by Jan/Feb 2006 The music CD should be released 8 weeks in advance.

We have just launched a website which you can visit and give me a feedback as to what else you would like to see there.

Please help us in propagating the message of Banaras to as many as possible.
