IT-BHU and social work
Chronicle Editor @ Nov 11, 2005

It is a tradition at IT-BHU to give back the society their dues. Students/alumni/faculty members of the institute are regularly involved in providing education to the needy children of the society.

TAC organises workshop at GNN School, Gorakhpur

Having successfully conducted the preliminary workshops for the first yearites, the Technical Activity Centre (TAC), IT-BHU came back in action at another workshop, which was the first workshop outside Varanasi. TAC conducted a three-day workshop at the Gorakh Nath Public School, Gorakhpur for students of class 11th and 12th. The workshop was held during 30th September - 2nd October, 2005. This trip was supported by the arrangement of traveling, boarding and lodging by school itself. The TAC team consisted of 15 members and was led by Rohit Kumar (Electronics 2006). It was attended by about 60 students of the school.

Three workshops viz. Motorboat, Straw Bridge, and Robotics (Lego Mindstorm) were held over the three days. Students showed great interest and ingenuity during these workshops. Many of the models were at par if not better than those made at the institute by the first yearites. During the robotics workshop the students were asked to build robots using Lego Mindstorm kits that could perform specific tasks and they showed a lot of enthusiasm in achieving what was required. A lot of creative talent was on display, which surpassed the expectations of the TAC team.

Rohit Kumar (the group leader) said the response from the students and the staff was amazing and so was their hospitality. The students were all praise for the way the workshops were conducted. For most of them it was a first stint with any kind of technical activity and they grabbed the opportunity with both hands, to quote one of them, “I have learned so many new concepts through this practical work and in a much more interesting way that I could ever do in a class room. It was a great experience”. The workshop ended with an interactive session where the questions regarding IIT entrance and future in engineering studies were discussed. Thus the TAC team retuned leaving a lot of satisfied faces and adding yet another feather in its cap.

The event was organised by Vibhav Agrawal, Mechanical 2006.

Technical Activity Center is a student body of likeminded students who prefer practical experience to the pedantic approach. It provides a medium to tap the immense potential and talent of the students of IT-BHU. It aims at the exposure of students to various branches of technology and to help them in finding their areas of interest. Through TAC, students have been working on varied areas from ROBOTICS to Management of Cultural Events.
