It is a matter of great pride that our alumnus (Mechanical 1969), Mr. Rajendra Prasad Singh, Chairman and Managing Director of Power Grid Corporation of India, has been awarded D. Sc. (Honoris Causa) by Banaras Hindu University during its convocation on 3rd March 2006. He was awarded the degree by His Excellency the President of India, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam.
To felicitate this extra-ordinary achievement by Mr. RP Singh, Association of IT BHU Alumni (AIBA) organised a reception on Thursday, 9th March 2006 at PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry, New Delhi.

Association of IT BHU Alumni felicitates Dr. R. P. SINGH , CMD POWERGRID, on being conferred with Honorary Doctorate by BANARAS HINDU UNIVERSITY
The Association of IT BHU Alumni, the apex body of the engineers of Banaras Hindu University in the country, organised a program to felicitate its distinguished alumnus, Shri Rajendra Prasad Singh, the Chairman and Managing Director of Power Grid Corporation of India, on the occasion of his receiving D. Sc., honoris causa, from Banaras Hindu University.
Sh.R.P.Singh, CMD POWERGRID was conferred with the degree for his outstanding contribution towards the Power sector. The degree was presented by Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, the Hon’ble President of India on 03.03.2006 at Banaras Hindu University during the 88th Convocation Ceremony of the University.
Dr. Singh completed his Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering and Masters in Machine Design from the reputed Institute of Technology, BHU. Dr. Singh had worked in various capacities in several prestigious organizations like TISCO and NTPC prior to joining POWERGRID in 1991 at its inception. He has been the Chairman & Managing Director of POWERGRID since 1996.
The Institute of Technology, BHU, which was founded in 1919, is the merged entity of Banaras Engineering College, College of Mining and Metallurgy and College of Technology. The Institute, formed with the vision of providing engineers for Independent India has been fulfilling the dreams and vision of its founder Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya, by its continued leadership in providing India with its finest technical talent since its inception, as also to the world. The Institute, which takes its students along with the IITs using the IIT-JEE examination since 1972 has been consistently ranked amongst the top 10 institutes in India and many of its distinguished alumni like Dr. R.P. Singh, Proshanto Banerjee, CMD- GAIL, Col. S.P. Wahi, Ex- CMD, ONGC, Mr. A. K. Sah, Ex-CMD, NTPC, Mr. S. S. Kohli, Ex-CMD, Punjab National Bank, Mr. G. D. Gaiha, CMD, TCIL, Mr. Arbind Kumar, CMD, NPCC, Mr. A.K. Srivastava, CMD, PEC, amongst others, are contributing to make India a technological superpower as also strengthening of the core industry sector in India.
