Dr. V. K. Raina [CIV '61] invited by Pakistan Government for a Seminar

Dr. Raina.jpg Dr. Virindra Kumar Raina (Civil 1961), an eminent civil engineering scholar, has been invited by National Highway Authority of Pakistan as a key speaker for an international seminar on Bridges during 1st week of May, 2006 at Islamabad. He will also deliver lectures to Department of Civil Engineering at University of Engineering and Technology, Lahore.

Dr. Raina has an enviable track record in the field of civil engineering and particularly for bridge construction. He obtained a degree in Civil and Municipal Engineering from IT-BHU with two gold medals. He also obtained a Masters degree and PhD in the field of Concrete Structures and Technology from Imperial College of London.

Dr Raina is presently Technical Advisor to the Government of Bahrain for the Bahrain-Qatar Causeway Bridge. Prior to that, he served as Senior Expert and Consultant to the United Nations and the World Bank in many countries. He also had the privilege of heading the UN Team of Experts in Saudi Arabia for the multi-billion dollar extensive road network development and maintenance program.

Dr. Raina delivered guest lectures at our institute last November. He plans to visit our institute frequently and share his knowledge and the expertise in the field of civil engineering. His impressive biodata is attached below. Also attached is ‘Introduction to Bahrain-Qatar Causeway Sea Link’. This bridge is 40 KM long and being built at an estimated project cost of US $ 2.3 billion.
