As requested by HRD Ministry, our institute submitted a document on “autonomy for the institute” on March 10. The ministry wanted to know how the seven colleges will have governance system once they are upgraded. Our document describes the future governance of our institute as similar to other IITs, i.e. governed by Director and Deans.
There is no further development on the IIT front. The Government is probably waiting for some answers (about autonomy, national level entrance exam, recruitment of faculty on all-India basis, etc.) from the state governments for the colleges under their control. If any agreement is reached, then some sort of announcement expected by the government during May 10-23, when the Parliament meets for supplementary budget discussion.
