It is high time to bridge the gap between technology and demand of industry and society. It is indispensable to make course comprehensible with due care against the intricacies developed in the process of simplification, said Prof. Rajen Govind Harshe, Vice-Chancellor of Allahabad University on Monday.
He was speaking as chief guest in a workshop on curriculum development of B.Tech course held at Motilal Nehru National Institute of Technology. Prof Harshe said that best minds are bred by the mentors; hence teachers and researchers should join hands in inculcating the scientific temperament among the budding engineers.
Presiding over the workshop. Director of MNNIT, Prof Arun Baran Samaddar said that time has come when we have to lay our emphasis on modern technologies and biotechnology qualifies all the virtues and demands due weightage to advance research in its field.
President of National science Academy VP Kamboj spoke on biotechnology is inter-disciplinary study and said that it has potential of hybrid vigour.
In charge of biotechnology course at MNNIT, Sonia Varshney said that it was matter of concern that we have not generated intellectual property and have achieved success only in industry. She further said that since education of biotechnology differs from other streams of studies and branches of engineering course hence emphasis should be laid on quality of education.
Prof Subir Kundu of IT BHU highlighted the problems in the field of biotechnology and said that the inadequate number of research personnel, staff and infrastructure are impediments in the development of biotechnology in the country.
CEO of Biotechnology Park, Lucknow, PK Seth stressed over the development of curriculum according to the demand of industry. He also talked about institute-industry research interaction and consortia.
Experts like Triloki Nath, head of applied mechanics, MNNIT, GS Randhawa, IIT Roorkee, Dr R Prasad, IIT Roorkee and Dr M Ismail, National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development put forth their ideas and modifications in proposed course of biotechnology.
It may be mentioned here that MNNIT is all set to begin B.Tech course which is first of its kind among all NITs of the country, from forthcoming session (2006-07).
