A meeting at New Delhi was held on September 1 by HRD Ministry to discuss about IIT issue. Representatives from all seven colleges (including from IT-BHU) were present in the meeting.
Our institute has been able to utilize Rs. 12 Crores given in the 1st phase of the MHRD grant and hence the HRD Ministry will release grants for further Rs. 13 Crores. The Ministry did not discuss about IIT issue with any of the colleges, although some were offered INI (Institute of National Importance) status pending meeting of certain requirements.
From this year, we may get some grants for the Preparatory students (SC / ST category students undergoing one year of coaching). All the IITs were getting it already but we were not getting it. Due to increased intake of students (because of reservations etc) a recurring grant and one time grant (to build infrastructure) per new seat would be provided by the Govt. (This is same as what IITs have asked for)
The Anand Krishnan Committee report and the other report were shared with the representative of all the institutes.
