The 2007 installment of the Spring Fest, IIT KGP’s cultural fest, was held from the 25th to the 28th of January 2007. IT participated in full strength of 54, accompanied by Dr P. R. Maiti, from the Department of Civil Engineering and fared excellently in all categories. The grand display led to IT being crowned the 2nd best outstation team (who could have bettered us is beyond me, because I felt we were the best by far). The long list of proud achievements started on the very first day of the competitions, 26th of January, as the theatre team won 1st place in the Impromptu Short Skit Competition. A satire on the excitable nature of the media and illiteracy in villages won them first place by a considerable margin. The quizzers were in their element on the 27th as they fought off very tough competition for a laudable 4th place in MELA, the Music, Entertainment, Literature and Arts Quiz conducted by renowned quiz master Arun Mani. The reasons to celebrate on the 27th multiplied many fold as members of the Lit Team won the English Debate. A second place in Extempore was also to follow. On the 28th the Musicians got into the act as well, with a third place in the Solo Vocals. The Theatre Team pitched in another great performance and was rewarded with a third in the Mime. The Dance Team’s wonderfully original and energetic group performance won the third place in Centrifuge (not to mention a deafening ovation, off course). The Fine Arts Team meanwhile was in astounding form, winning a top 3 position in almost everything they participated in.

After some frolicking in Kolkatta on Monday the 29th, the team returned to IT on the 30th and was greeted with warm embraces and the customary congratulatory kicks. A tea party was organized by the Gymkhana on the 1st of February to felicitate the team.

The Prize Winners:
