As follow up to the discussions we used to have over mail prior to Opulence, here are a few details of the national entrepreneurial & management festival, Opulence. The third edition of Opulence was held from the 12th-14th of January earlier this year. Ventura, the business plan competition saw around 15 plans presented by students from various parts of the country. Mr. Arvind Gupta, CEO, e-enable Technologies and a venture capitalist supported the B-plan contest. The process of getting venture capital support for the top two plans is underway and is likely to be formalized in a few months time.
Pragyan, the year long lecture series initiative of the Industry Institute Partnership Cell (IIPC) in association with Opulence has seen workshops on Business Plan Writing & Case Study Writing by the likes of Mr. Pramod Joshi, ex-MD, Syncata & Mr. Rajat Dutta, Johnson & Johnson. We also had some of our illustrious alumni entrepreneurs sharing their experiences with students. The speakers included Dr. S. K. Maini, Chairman, Maini Group- maker of Reva electric cars; Mr. Deepak Pahwa, Group Chairman, Indo- American Joint Ventures & Chairman, Pahwa Enterprises, Managing Director, Bry-Air (Asia) Pvt. Ltd, awarded the Entrepreneur of the Year Award in the small-medium enterprise category in 1989; Mr. Debashish Bhattacharya, General Manager, Siemens; and Mr. Arvind Jain, Director, Bhilai Engineering Corporation.
Opulence also has case study, marketing, strategy forecasting & business paper contests besides workshops & panel discussions thus attempting to enhance awareness about corporate functioning and its demands. We also did a small session on 'Financial Statements & Balance Sheets' by Prof. Jayanto Mukhopadhyaya of IIM-C fame in this regard.
With the demands imposed by the corporate world witnessing sudden shifts, we believe that such activities are very important, and are striving hard to give Pragyan a definite structure. Support in terms of guidance & assistance is what we are looking for since as B-Tech students, our awareness on these issues is quite limited too. We are a group of around 15 students who are involved with the Industry Institute Partnership Cell (IIPC), under the able guidance of Dr. P.K. Mishra from the Dept. of Chemical Engg.
