THE 630-birth anniversary of Sant Shiromani Shri Guru Ravidas was celebrated with enthusiasm here in Varanasi on Friday.
Several functions including seminars, religious meets and Jhanki processions were held throughout the city. All India Adi-Dharma Mission organised a religious meet at the birthplace of Guru Ravidas in Seer Govardhanpur area here today.
National Acting President of the Mission, Mahant Acharya Bharat Bhushan Das presided over the meet and called upon the youths to follow the path of Guru Ravidas and spread the message of love and peace in the society. `Each section of society should be given equal respect’, he said.
International President of Vishwa Hindu Parishad, Ashok Singhal, former Chairman of SC/ST Commission, Vijay Sonkar Shashtri, Ram Kamal Das Vedanti Ji Maharaj and Ravicharan Das Ji Maharaj also addressed the meet.
All India Adi-Dharma Mission also organised a grand Jhanki procession displaying life-sketch and preaching of Sant Ravidas from Maidagin area this evening.
SC/ST students, Teaching and Non-teaching Staff Programme Organising Committee of Banaras Hindu University organised a national seminar on `Caste: Past, present and future’ at Arts Faculty auditorium here today.
Chairman of Chetna (Canada), Virendra Banger, Bhante Vishwabandhu of Shital Anmol, former Vice-Chancellor of Faizabad University, Prof. Angney Lal, Deputy Commissioner of Income Tax, Subedar Ram, Dr. BB Mallik and Dr. Swaroopanand were among others who addressed the seminar.
A Jhanki procession was taken out from Amphitheatre Ground in BHU this evening.
Dr. Ambedkar Vidyarthi Parishad organised a seminar on `Social contribution of Sant Ravidas’ at Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapeeth today.
Jan Kalyan Parishad organised Guru Ravidas birth anniversary function in Chaukaghat area today. Dahej Rahit Jateeya and Antarjateeya Vivah Samajik Samiti also took out a Jhanki Procession.
