Vice President Wishes Students a Bright Future
(By Ankit Khanna, 2nd Engg. Physics)

Banaras Hindu University on Monday, 9th April 2007 conducted its 89th convocation. The convocation address was delivered by India’s vice-president Mr Bhairon Singh Shekhawat.

Mr Shekhawat was escorted by a huge security force that made sure that everything went by smoothly and soundly.

Mr Shekhawat was full of praise for the university’s scholars, as he congratulated them for their achievements and encouraged them to be leading lights for India in the future.

He was particularly adamant that it was the need of the hour to bridge the gap between the various sections of the society. He indicated that literacy needs to be promoted and basic amenities need to be made available to the common man. A disturbing present trend according to him was the large number of suicides among farmers. He made it clear that it is necessary to act immediately to assist the agricultural sector.

Mr Shekhawat also appealed to India’s educational institutions to impart quality training to its students to equip them with all necessary tools required to contribute to the nation’s progress.
