Human chain in Varanasi on Water Day

Posted at Thursday, 22 March 2007 19:03 IST

up.jpg Varanasi, March 22: A 7-km long human chain was formed to mark the World Water Day today. The purpose of human chain was to tell people as to what extent river Ganga has been polluted and that it can't be cleaned without the support of the people, Sahara Samay sources said.

According to the channel, the chain was formed from Asi Ghat to Raj Ghat. Many students from several schools participated in the programme.

Prof Virbhadra Singh, who has been making efforts to cleanse the holy river for long, urged the people on this occasion that they should cast their votes in favour of those candidates who promise to help clean the ancient river of the country. The Sankat Mochan association organised this programme.

(Chronicle adds: Prof. Vir Bhadra Mishra is a retired faculty of Civil Engineering Dept. of our college.)
