Tuesday, March 20, 2007 (New Delhi):
The horror and helplessness continues for the families of Nithari victims even as residents of Varanasi showed solidarity for them in a unique way.
Rukmini Devi has spent the last 30 days walking to Delhi from Varanasi.
It's been a long, tiring 800 km long trudge. But it's one that she set out on in memory of her eight-year-old daughter Eshu who went missing in August 2006.
Expressing solidarity
Rukmini has lost all hope of ever finding her daughter again but wanted to express solidarity with the families who lost their loved ones in the Nithari serial killings.
"I have no hope left that my daughter is alive anymore. We went to Shahpur, Ghazipur and everywhere to look for her," said Rukmini Devi.
Rukmini is one of 80 people from eastern UP, who have marched to Delhi to raise their voice against child trafficking and prostitution.
A Varanasi-based NGO helped organise the march. The group was however detained at the Surajpur police line in Noida as a preventive measure but released a few hours later.
