The Class of 1983 is meeting at IT campus in Varanasi on 27^th, 28^th and 29^th December 2008 to celebrate their Silver Jubilee Year of graduation. Among the various programs and events being planned as part of this rendezvous include; a visit to Sarnath, a meeting with the Director Dr. S.N. Upadhyay and a possible meeting with the Vice Chancellor of the University. For the meetings with the Director and the VC, we are hoping to get their calendar commitments and are hopeful of clinching these.

 

Other events being planned are:

 

1.      A round tour of the Institute (all departments) – could be reminiscent of the round tour we all were taken on during our first days at the Institute!!

2.      Interactive meetings with the current students (in groups)

3.      An open-for-all dinner that is meant to be an occasion for the current students to mix and mingle and eventually network with the 1983 batch

4.      A thanks-giving and felicitations event in which we hope to present mementos to some (or all) Faculties from our times (if they happen to be around). The specifics of this event are being worked out by a group led by Pratap Mohan, Supreet Jain et al.

5.      We hope to announce, during or around this event, a project or undertaking that the 1983 batch will own / sponsor for our Alma Mater. The exact project that would be taken up is being discussed among the larger group of the 1983 batch.

6.      A banquet / dinner at a Five-star hotel to which the Director and faculty will be invited.

 

Not to forget about having chai at Bechus / Mochus / DG Corner etc., (if these joints are still around !!), a visit to the Birla Mandir, Godowlia / Hanuman Ghat / Vishwanathjee Mandir / Sankat Mochan, as the case may be. Lankating could also be on the cards!! A visit to Pehalwaan shop and to taste the ever mouth-watering “loungalathaa” should certainly be counted upon.

 

All in all, we would try to re-live the grand campus life we enjoyed for five long years in a matter of three days and to show pieces of this to our family too!! A prime time for nostalgia, all said and done.

 

Many of us have planned to land up on 26^th afternoon itself and would be leaving around the noon of 30^th Dec., so for some of us, it will practically be a five day event.

 

Accommodations are being arranged at the IT-BHU guest house and also at some of the five-star / three-star hotels at Varanasi. Reuniting alumni will pay directly for the rooms. Transportation from and to these hotels will also be organized. Naturally, all these expenses will be met by the reuniting alumni themselves, by contributing generously for the reunion event. Any money that is left over after meeting all the reunion expenses will be donated to the itbhuglobal.org corpus.

We hope to and INTEND to have a great time during the reunion and wish to issue a call to all graduates of the Class of 1983 to join the bandwagon and make it a grand success.
