Message to mining alumni by Dr. A. Jamal, Convener of the seminar:
On this occasion, a souvenir volume would be published under the title "Visionaries of Indian Mining Industry". The Committee of the publication cell has suggested including names of BHU Alumni working in mining and allied industries in this special document (Souvenir).
I will be thankful if the alumni can provide a brief bio-data not more than two pages along with a recent colored photograph at the earliest please (by 30th September 2008).

PREAMBLE
About Mining dept. IT-BHU
The Department of Mining Engineering at BHU is the oldest in this discipline in the country. It occupies a pioneering position in the field of mining education and research. It has many firsts to its credit. The first Bachelor, Postgraduate and Doctoral degrees in mining engineering in India have been awarded by this department. Today’s Mineral Industry is being run by many of its illustrious alumni holding important positions in the country. Senior faculty members have been recognized by the mining and allied industries as experts in the respective fields and are members of important decision making bodies and R&D organisations like CIMFR, NIRM, UGC, ISMU, NCL, CCL, SCCL, CIL, HZL, UCIL etc. Faculty members have been regularly contributing in national and international journals in India and abroad. The Department is well recognized as a leading centre of research in mining engineering in general and rock mechanics & ground control and geo-environment in particular. The Department received generous grants to accelerate its research and developmental activities. It has received 72.60 lakh under FIST programme. It has also received many sponsored projects and consultancy assignments from Mining Industries. The U.G.C., New Delhi sanctioned an additional amount of Rs. 20.00 Lac to Centre of Advanced Study to upgrade its infrastructure. Further, on the basis of the performance and utilization of Rs.20.00 Lac, U.G.C. sanctioned additional Rs.30.00 Lac to the department for upgrading the infrastructure.
