view in one page and print

(Forwarded by Praharsh Sharma, B. Tech. Part – III, Department of Electronics Engineering.  Email: praharshsharmaster@gmail.com)

Spardha ’09 happened amidst all expectations to be a resounding success. The stage had been set for months as Spardha ’09 lived up to all the hype and expectations. It set new records on the way to attaining new heights. The four-day festival kick started with aplomb as Chief Guest Prof. S.K. Sharma (Dean of Students, BHU) presided over the inaugural ceremony which was characterized by the hoisting of IT flag and for the first time ever, a swash-buckling march past. The ceremony set the time running for the four day festival attended by as many as 45 colleges from all across the country including IIT Kanpur, NIT Trichy, NIT Surat, MNNIT Allahabad, MERI Kolkatta among other prestigious colleges and a total of 1241 student sportspersons including 200 female ones.

The ‘09 edition of Spardha proved out to be a pioneer in many ways. A comprehensive blog, an e-magazine series and a newspaper were launched in the run up to the festival. As a result, updates and information were easily available to the students and interested participants. Snippets about distinguished athletes and alumni of IT-BHU in the Spardha Capsule further stoked passion and excitement among the masses. Thanks to the system of live updates, the festival was conducted in a smooth manner.

422-3.png 422-4.png
422-5.png 422-6.png

Handball and many informal such as night cricket tournaments introduced this year were a cherished success. JEC Jabalpur emerged champions in Handball while IT-BHU romped to glory in Hockey, Cricket, Badminton and Basketball. BSAITM, Faridabad won a superb contest against a well matched IT-BHU team and walked away as Volleyball champions. In the girls’ arena MITS Sikar proved its mettle and emerged champions in basketball and volleyball. Spardha ’09 proved to be a happy hunting ground for the home team as they won a horde of medals.

Dr. B.N. Rai (President, IT-Gymkhana) ensured that the participants of Spardha ’09 remember it for its flawless management. As the last seconds of the Basketball Final Match ticked away, the crowds fell silent. But the organizing team had one last trump card to play. Fireworks lit up the sky as the valedictory ceremony began under the auspices of the Chief Guest Mr. Abhin Shyam Gupta (Badminton icon and Arjuna Awardee) and Dr. B.N. Rai who enlightened and enlivened the participants with their words of appreciation and encouragement.

Mr. Abhin Shyam Gupta gave away prizes and certificates to the winners and also had words of consolation for the unlucky ones who could not score a medal.

Spardha ‘09 was a mega success, an extravaganza of unbelievable athleticism, mind boggling skills, tenacity and grit, and sure to be remembered as one of the best sporting events of the year all around the country.
