“Decent” haul in Press Lions: Ogilvy gets a Silver & Rediffusion gets a Bronze

While last year, Press Lions was one of the stronger categories for India, this year there were only two Lions won in the category in comparison to the seven Lions last year.

Ogilvy India has bagged one Silver Lion Campaign for the entries ‘Cave-Man’, ‘Diver’ and ‘Tourist’ done for Perfetti Van Melle’s Sour Marbels Candies. Rediffusion Y&R has bagged a Bronze Lion Campaign for ‘Engineer’, ‘Housewife’ and ‘Tourist’ from the print campaign done for Bharti Airtel.
David Lubars, Chairman and Chief Creative Officer, BBDO North America stated at the outset that the jury was very tough on the Press entries this year. He explained, “There has been significant talk on how there is superficial stuff that has been entered in awards, and what is the point of that in a year like this where everyone is cautious about what they are spending. You have to use this as a platform to show clients that when you do good work, ground breaking work, it holds everyone in good stead. The shortlist was much shorter than any year. We were clear that even a shortlist entry should mean something.”
Ogilvy India's Abhijit Avasthi, who was the Indian juror on Press LionsAvasthi stated that it was decent year for India. He added, “Crafting in Indian press entries have improved substantially, and that is one reason why we have two entries that have a Lion.”
In all there were 10 entries from India that had made it to the Press Lions’ shortlist.
