At present, our institute is at the critical moment. We shall have to watch development in the month of July. Our entire IT-BHU community, including students, faculty, staff and alumni are working together towards the goal of making our institute an IIT.
We have forwarded our online petition (along with signatures) to VC and eight members of Executive Council. After follow up by us, several EC members have asked VC to call for a special meeting of Executive Council of Banaras Hindu University. The new meeting of Council is necessary, as the earlier resolution (dated Feb 21, 2009) by the council does not address all the concerns about making our institute an IIT. We have learnt that meeting of Executive Council of BHU is scheduled sometime in July. We hope that issue of IIT Conversion will be taken up and successfully resolved in the meeting.
Amendment to the Institutes of Technology Act in parliament on 15th July
We have learnt that Amendment to the Institutes of Technology Act, 1963 will be taken up on 15th July in the parliament. The Institutes of Technology Act will be modified to include names of the eight new IITs being set up in the country. However, the name of our institute will not be included in it for the time being. This is because HRD ministry has not received necessary communication from our University Administration resolving all issues/concerns for the conversion process.
The reasons for not including the name of our institute in the proposed Amendment of the Institutes of Technology Act by govt. are as follows:
* Proposed IIT-BHU cannot go to Barkaccha (District- Mirzapur) campus of BHU.
* VC of BHU cannot be the Chairman of the Governing Board of the proposed IIT-BHU; but he can be the Vice-Chairman and 2-3 members could be on senate/ Governing Board of IIT-BHU, as nominated by BHU.
* IIT-BHU cannot be governed under the BHU Act and Institutes of Technology Act simultaneously. It has to be under Institutes of Technology Act only, just like other IITs.
From our side, our association is trying its best to resolve the issue. Letters requesting support for IIT conversion have been sent to senior govt. officials. A meeting with senior govt. officials is also planned in near future.

I wish IIT conversion is done as soon as possible ...but if it is not possible to do it in this acedamic session,I strongly suggest the IIT Giverning body to remove the name of all institute other than IITs from there brochure and let other institutes to select ppl from the extended list if they wish so.
It will clear the confusion and the illusion from the minds of the students of IT-BHU once and for all.
