Dr. Prem Chand Jain Dr. Prem Chand Jain is currently the Chairman of Indian Green IGBC (India) Building Council. He has served as advisor to Her Excellency the President of India, to Prime Minister of India, and to the former Prime Minister of India, Late Shri Rajiv Gandhi. He got his BS from Banaras Hindu University and PhD in Mechanical Engineering from University of Minnesota. He was honored by Banaras Hindu University with “Outstanding Alumnus” award for fifty years of “Service to “Environment”.
He started his career with legendary Dr. Willis Carrier’s R&D Group on NASA projects. He returned to India 1970 as Visiting Professor at IIT Kanpur to set up Laboratory for Environmental engineering. Dr. Jain founded Spectral Services Consultants Private Limited in 1980 with the mission of providing highly energy efficient, fire safe, fully coordinated design for buildings planned in India. Spectral now has over 500 members, having completed projects worth over Rs. 15,000 Crores in India including nearly 70% of India’s finest hotels, many major hospitals, places of Worship and other industrial, commercial, and IT parks. Spectral has the rare distinction of having completed 6 Platinum Rated Green Buildings and the honor of designing Godrej Green Business Centre, which got the highest LEED Platinum Rating from USGBC in 2003, and became world’s Greenest building for the period Sep. 2003 to March 2004. Spectral has received LEED (USA) Platinum Award for Wipro Technologies, ITC Centre, ABN Amro Bank, Spectral Head Quarter” and LEED India First Platinum Award for Patni Knowledge Centre.
Dr. Jain founded ASHRAE India Chapter in 1989 and was honored with “Distinguished Fellow” in 2005 and “John F James International Award” in 2009 for outstanding services in bringing ASHRAE to the International forum. Prem founded ISHRAE, the Indian Society of Heating Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers in 1980. He was given Life Time Achievement Award both by ASHRAE India and ISHRAE and elevated to President Emeritus. He was the Co-Chairman–International Green Building Congress at New Delhi, and is the Convener– Revision of “National Building Code of India “Air Conditioning, Heating & Mechanical Ventilation” Section. Passionate about teaching, he has been a visiting faculty to School of Planning and Architecture, Delhi University, since 1973. He was elected the “Best Faculty of the Year” by students in 1990.
Dr. Jain’s Honors & Awards include “Marquis Who’s Who in the World”, “Marquis Who’s Who in Science & Engineering, Bibliotheque: World Wide 2003 (USA), Profiles in Excellence, Baron’s Who’s Who 2000 (USA), The Asia 500 Leaders for the New Century, 2000 – present, Eminent Personalities of India, 1998 – present, Asian/American Who’s Who, 1997 – present, All India Achiever’s Conference, 1997, Rashtriya Gaurav Award Institution of Engineers India, 1997, World’s Who’s Who of Men & Women of Distinction, Indian Plumbing 2005 Association’s Flowell Plumbing Personality of the Year (Lifetime Achievement) Award, and NIRATA Innovation Award.
