Dear IT-BHU Alumni,
Wish you a very happy and a prosperous new year.
The year 2009 was a very important year in our alumni association’s history. This year the association took many steps to put a structure around the hither to amorphous structure of the association while under taking multiple efforts to bring alumni and the Institute closer.
Global Organization: The organization initiated the creation of Council of Representatives where each class (Electronics 79 or Mechanical 84 etc) nominated one representative to the council. The representatives are the bridge between the organization and the alumni. The Council of Representatives then elected the Board of Directors. The term of Board of Directors is for two years. For more information visit:
The Board of Directors has the Director of IT-BHU, the Faculty in-charge of Alumni Affairs and a student representative as ex-officio members of the Board of Directors.
Indian organization: IT BHU Global Alumni Association opened a registered office in Varanasi, India. The office will be housed in the Institute and would function with the help and support of the alumni association as well as the Institute. This entity is required to handle fund collection and for transferring funds from the US organization to India so that projects can be handled in a streamlined manner.
Events: 2009 was the Silver Jubilee year for the Class of 1984 who celebrated their reunion on campus during the last week of December '09. Chapters in various regions organized local events - Silicon Valley chapter organized Holi meet and a Family picnic in November. There was an alumni get together organized by the New Jersey chapter and the Bangalore chapters. AIBA - the alumni association in Delhi organized its annual meet in May and the annual dinner in December.
Projects: IT-BHU Global coordinated and executed a couple of projects this year
IIT Conversion: The alumni association worked hand in hand with the Institute to push for the IIT conversion effort. This project saw more than Rs 7,00,000 raised to support students and faculty during their visit to New Delhi in a matter of 2 weeks. In addition, volunteers from the alumni association constantly kept in touch with people in MHRD and are continuing to do so.
Publication Scholarships: 2009 was the first year where the alumni association rolled out scholarships for 5 undergraduate students who published most research papers at all levels. The papers were weighted based on the impact factor of the conference or the publications - International conferences and reputed journals had the most weight.
International Travel: Alumni Association also provided support for travel of 2 faculty members for international travel for international conferences.
Many other things happened in the community - alumni scaled newer heights in their professional lives while some alumni left for the heavenly abode. The Institute took steps required to position it for the ever increasing challenges of educating an ever increasing number of students while improving its research and consultancy portfolio. The ITBHU Chronicle - the monthly news letter covered all the happenings and brought it to you regularly. Chronicle is available online at www.itbhuglobal.org/chronicle
As we step in 2010 - there are many more things from the side of the alumni association which need to be put in place and much more support required from the alumni, student and faculty to keep the organization growing and building the necessary structures to connect the Global IT-BHU Community and to provide support the initiatives that the Institute undertakes to become the leader in technical education.
Regards,
IT-BHU Global Alumni Association

Both Deepak Bagde and Suhas More did Electrical Engineering in 1977 from IT-BHU. Deepak Bagde started 3D Micro Systems as a proprietary firm in 1985 in Pune. Suhas More joined later as a partner. The partnership firm moved from Pune to Navi Mumbai in 1991 and was later converted to Three D Micro Systems Pvt. Ltd. Both Deepak Bagde and Suhas More are directors in the company. The company manufactures electrical/electronic components such as numerical control cards for washers/dryers.

As I am a designer, I thought of incorporating it in the company name. The three Ds in the company name come from “Dedicated to Design & Development”
The company started with microprocessor based Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) in 19 inch rack. The PLCs were designed for typical indian environment and installation conditions. The PLCs were best sellers in pharmaceutical Blister Packing Machines for tablet Non-Filled Detection (NFD) systems for detecting unfilled blisters and the machine control. These NFD systems are still in operation at more than 200 locations in India and abroad.
In 1998, I successfully designed a designed a washing machine controller card for Godrej appliances. This card became a best seller model for Godrej at that time. Our business model changed from PLCs to high volume appliance control cards.
In 2003, we got ISO 9001-200 certification for Design & Manufacturing of appliances control cards and design & commissioning of Automation Projects using PLCs.
Three D Micro Systems Pvt. Ltd currently employs 50 people.

A brief description of my design 'DAC' Washing machine controller:
Godrej has named it as Digital Aqua Control Plus (DAC+) model.
The idea is simple but has been appreciated by the actual users of the machine.
It addresses the issues of irregular or insufficient water that has become so common in India. It goes into hibernation in case of low or no water and takes care of power cuts as well.
I have posted a video made by Godrej on the same album. This video explains the basic idea and was made for my earlier DAC design.
The current model is DAC+ which has many additional features and has given Godrej a valuable market share since its introduction.
During our Incite 2010 conference, a video clip showing C K Prahalad - the Indian management guru referring to this simple idea was shot.
