The Institute of Technology, Banaras Hindu University celebrated IT-Day on 19th March, 2010 at G-11 as the IT-Day, which in less than a decade will celebrate its diamond jubilee. It is overwhelming that our institution has been producing engineering stalwarts for 90 years now.
The chief guest for this momentous occasion was Mr. N. K. Shrivastava, Senior Deputy Director General, Telecommunications Engineering Centre in dept. of Telecommunications, Ministry of communications and Information Technology Govt. of India. When invited to address the gathering, Mr. Shrivastava described the transformations in the educational system, the advancement in technology, limitless potential of telecommunication industries and also gave us a brief introduction about the future of telecommunication.
Mr. N. K. Shrivastava, an IT-BHU alumnus and a gold medalist in Electronics Engineering in 1975 was conferred the IT Distinguished Alumni Award in the presence of esteemed dignitaries like Prof. D. P. Singh, Vice Chancellor BHU, Prof. Virendra Singh, Dean of Faculty of Engineering, Prof. K. P. Singh, Director IT-BHU and Prof. S. N. Upadhyay, former Director of IT-BHU. Prof. D. P. Singh extended his heartfelt congratulations to the faculty and students and gave his blessing to the institute. Prof. K. P. Singh also thanked the students and staff for their support and the bright future of our college and the imminent conversion to IIT.
Soon after the enlightening discourse, the eagerly awaited prize distribution began and students with meritorious performances were felicitated overall and in their respective fields. Awardees were handed the mementos by the hon'ble Chief Guest. Awards were also presented for the best hostels with GSMC hostel in the top spot with Dhanrajgiri and Morvi having to settle for the rest of the podium places. 18 students were awarded IT-Colour for outstanding performance in Games and Sports activities and 4 students, Gaurav Mittal (5th year, Mathematics & Computing), Raunak Kalra (3rd year, Mining), Abhinav Pandey (3rd year, Electrical), Aviral Srivastava (2nd year, Mechanical) were awarded the same honour for excellence in cultural events.
The prestigious distinction of Institute Blue was conferred on Prof. Virendra Singh, Praharsh Sharma (4th year, Electronics), Abhishek Modi (4th year, SMST), Satyendra Nath Singh (5th year, Mechanical) and Gaurav Garg (4th year, Metallurgy). And finally the Outstanding Student Award the year award was bagged by Prachi Mittal (4th year, Electronics) for all round excellence.
The curtains were drawn by Dr P. K. Mishra inviting all present to the IT cafeteria for tea and then reminding us yet again that we all could also be the ones receiving the honors by putting our best foot forward.
