Dr. Mona Nasr is currently Assistant Professor at the Department of Information systems, Faculty of Computers and Information, Helwan University at Cairo, Egypt. She is involved in the field of research in Mobile Agents, Information Security and Software Engineering, e-Learning, Conceptual Mapping, BI, GIS, etc. She is also active in arranging many national/international conferences. She is actively involved in social work for the needy and championing the cause for that. Her comments on Facebook reveal her softer and philosophical mind.

She has shown interest to become international examiner for research activities at our institute.

Q-1: Welcome, Madam. Please introduce yourself to our readers.

I was born in Cairo, Egypt in a family of 4 members. My father worked as a manager of at National Bank of Egypt (he died in 1990). My mother worked as consultant at Ministry of Finance, Sales Tax Authority (retired now) and my sister (4 yr younger) is working as a translator.

I attended primary school at Notre Dam Des Apotres School and secondary school at Al Salam College. I obtained BA (accounting) in 1992 from Ain Shams University. I did my diploma in “computers in commercial applications” in 1997 from Ain Shams University. Finally, I got M.Sc. (2000) and PhD (2006) in Information Systems from Helwan University. For M.Sc., my thesis was “Towards an Information System for Development of Student Hostel in Egyptian Universities” and for PhD, it was “Proposed Paradigm for Securing Software Mobile Agent Systems”.

I chose the field of Information technology/ I worked in the field at various positions and I was curious to know and study all the technologies related to my working field; hence I completed my diploma that was my 1st post graduate academic level successfully and joined to the other till I finished my Ph.D.

Since 2007, I am working as Assistant Professor in the Information Systems Department, Faculty of Computers and Information at Helwan University, Ain Helwan, Egypt. Before that, I worked for few years as Assistant professor at Misr University for Science & Technology; and the Institute of Studies and Statistical Researches, Cairo University. Prior to that (since 1994), I worked as Database Administrator and Analyst Programmer at Ministry of Finance.

Q-2: Please tell us about your current job as Assistant Professor at Helwan University.

My current job at Helwan University involves supervising M.Sc. and Ph.D. Theses, supervising many graduate-level projects, teaching several courses for under graduate level (general, software engineering students) and postgraduates level (diploma and master students). I also teach at section BIS (Business Information Systems) at Faculty of Commerce, Helwan University.

 Besides teaching at Helwan University, I also teach at Faculty of Information Technology, Misr University for Science and Technology and Center of Excellence in Scientific and Technological - Military Production for post graduate students (diploma). I am also Manager of Exam Unit at Faculty of Computers and Information, Helwan University.

Q-3: You have research interest in a wide range of information technology.

My areas of interest are:

Helwan University is a public Egyptian university and a member of the (Egyptian) Supreme Council of Universities. It's based in Ain Helwan, Helwan, Egypt. A relatively new university compared to other older Egyptian universities such as Cairo University and Ain Shams University, in July 26, 1975, Helwan University was established by Act No. 70 of 1975.

Helwan University started first as separate faculties in different small campuses, later the university faculties was gathered in one main campus (with few exceptions) in Ain Helwan, Helwan. It includes a variety of unique faculties amongst other Egyptian universities (Faculty of Arts, Faculty of Applied Arts, and Faculty of Music). Also, Faculty of Fine Arts, physical education for boys and girls, domestic economy were the first of their disciplines in Egypt. Other universities in Egypt started similar ones later on.

Helwan University (established July 26, 1975) is a public university based in Helwan in Egypt. It comprises 18 faculties as well as 50 research centers.

Generally, it is known for its engineering trend. It's very famous for its Faculties of Engineering (there are two of them), The Faculty of Commerce And Business Administration that contain unique and special departments like foreign trade, international relations and business information systems, a Faculty of Computers & Information. Also, it has a Faculty of Pharmacy which is known to be the first clinical pharmacy in Egypt while it has no Faculty of Medicine and many specialized faculties.

That is well known that money can make people independent. But what to do when somebody does not have money? The one way is to try to get the mortgage loans and just commercial loan.
