A dinner reception for the Vice-Chancellor of our University, Prof. Dhirendra Pal Singh was hosted on May 8th at Royal Albert’s Palace, New Jersey. The event was organized to honour our VC, who was visiting US during April 21-May 9. He visited State University of New York (SUNY) at Buffalo, New York; Cornell University, Ithaca, New York; University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and University of Georgia. Besides New Jersey, VC was also honoured by alumni group at New York and Maryland. VC was accompanied by his wife and his friends, Mr. Pradeep Sengar, Mr. Vijay Kumar Pandya and Mrs. Ritu Pandya.
The reception was jointly organized by IT-BHU Global Alumni Association (IBGAA), BHU Alumni based in US (BHU Parivar) and BHU Pharmacists’ Alumni Association of America (BHUAAA). About 60 alumni and their families/friends attended the meet. It was a great success.
The program started with singing of BHU Kulgeet and introduction about our Vice-Chancellor. His brief bio-data was also read out. Then a Plaque commemorating visit to New Jersey was presented to our VC by Prof. B. D. Nautiyal (retired Civil Engineering Professor from our institute). This was followed by classical dance program.
Prof. D. P. Singh made a PowerPoint presentation about BHU, its glorious past and future plan. He stated that several new faculties/programs will be introduced at the main campus in Varanasi as well as at Rajiv Gandhi South campus at Barkachha in Mirzapur district. He stressed that development of South Campus will also result in the development of this economically poor area. He appealed for help for establishing international guest house/hostel on the main campus in Varanasi.
The presentation was followed by question/answers from the audience. Regarding conversion of IT-BHU to IIT, he replied that it will happen soon as the formalities are continuing. About upgrade of Institute of Medical Sciences to AIIMS level, he assured that this will result in more central govt. funding and improvement of facilities but the institute will not be separated from the university.
The event was made possible by the help of the following volunteers: Manu Goyal, Anil Singh and Anand Maharana from IBGAA (www.itbhuglobal.org); Sushil Srivastava, Mrs. Vijaya Keshari and Arvind Srivastava from BHU Parivar (http://www.bhuparivar.net/); Chandrakant Trivedi and Dushyant Desai from BHUPAA. Entrepreneurs - TECH ENTREPRENEUR

(Saurabh Chandra)
Before starting Neev together with Santosh, Saurabh Chandra worked in Talisma as a Program Manager where he played a key role in the Web client strategy of the company and later in a crucial platform release, which opened up the product to endless customizations. From there he moved to being the first employee in India for Pi Corp (now Decho, an EMC company) where he was creating new ways for people to interact with personal information. His first entrepreneurship lesson came in school when creating and selling a school magazine at no budget. Many of those lessons are still handy. He is an alumnus of IT-BHU.

http://www.neevtech.com/neev/wcms/en/home/
Neev is an expert in web, social and mobile applications. It started out as a complete product outsourcing partner for startups creating portals, marketplaces and SaaS applications. Now it has evolved as a trusted development partner for the enterprise while retaining its start up client base. One of the few companies of its size with a strong client base in Europe (it has a subsidiary in Sweden) in addition to US and India. Neev's development strengths are reflected in its own content management system and cloud-based load testing product apart from various games and applications on the mobile.
The last entrepreneur to be featured on this series, Saurabh shares his take on entrepreneurship with Indian Startup EMERGEOUT initiative by NASSCOM.
1. Why did you take up entrepreneurship journey?
Saurabh: My first stint at entrepreneurship without realizing it was at school when I tried creating a low budget school magazine. After that I tried multiple failed attempts in college and later when I was working before finally it worked with Neev. So there was no conscious decision of taking this journey. It always seemed to be there.
2. What keeps you going (how and where do you find your motivation levels)?
Saurabh: Wealth creation that happens through an enterprise is extremely motivating. Clients who benefit, end-users who are enriched or employees who grow together are all sources of immense satisfaction which keeps you looking for more.
3. What is your advice to wannabe entrepreneurs in India?
Saurabh: In a country growing at this crazy rate, there is opportunity in every nook and corner. Don't go after the herd but find your passion. There is potential in everything!
4. What success means to you and your organization?
Saurabh: We have to seek success every day and help our clients win. Our success is measured in our client's success. But the clock resets every day, yesterday's laurels are not guarantee for tomorrow's victory. We need to strive hard each day.
5. What are your learnings from the failures?
Saurabh: There are no failures I think, only course corrections. You do, learn and do some more. I never focus on failures and quickly leave them behind. The most important thing is to fail quickly and decisively. Wrong decisions dragged on are the worst.
Saurabh’s perspective is that hard work is the essential ingredient of success.
So we sign off with this last view in this series of 30 entrepeneurs for Indian Startup EMERGEOUT Initiative by NASSCOM. We thank Avinash Raghava, Region Director, NASSCOM – North, Vijay Rayapati, Gizapage (who originally conceived this idea), and Kunal Kashyap from NASSCOM Bangalore for making this happen every day from April 1, 2010. Three convicted in Satyendra Dubey murder case
(Chronicle note: Satyendra Dubey was an alumnus of our college, who lost his life 3 years ago while fighting corruption in his native state Bihar. He was murdered on 27 Nov, 2003 by mafia after he exposed deep-rooted corruption in construction of the Golden Quadrilateral Project.
Satyendra did his B. Tech (Civil 1994) from IIT Kanpur and M. Tech (Civil 1996) from IT-BHU. His brother, Dhananjay Dubey (Electronics 2006) is also an alumnus of our college.)
NEW DELHI: Over six years after the murder of NHAI whistleblower Satyendra Kumar Dubey who exposed corruption in the golden quadrilateral project in Bihar, a court today convicted three accused in the case.
The special CBI court in Patna has convicted Mantu Kumar, Udai Kumar and Pinku Ravidas in the murder case of Dubey, a young engineer working in the Golden Quadrilateral Project of National Highway Authority of India, CBI spokesperson said in a statement, adding the quantum of sentence will be pronounced on March 27.
The young IIT-Kanpur alumni, who had blown the lid off various instances of large-scale flouting of rules in the Golden Quadrilateral Project was shot dead in the early hours of November 27, 2003 in front of Circuit House, Gaya, Bihar.
His murder sparked protests across the country amidst calls for a legislation to protect whistleblowers who expose corruption.
The CBI, which had taken over the investigation of the case from Bihar police on December 14, 2003 had filed a chargesheet in the case on September 3, 2004.
Mantu was convicted under sections for murder, voluntary causing hurt in committing robbery and the Arms Act for possessing unlicensed weapon, the statement said.
The other two accused persons were convicted for murder committed in furtherance of common intention and for voluntary causing hurt in committing robbery, it said.
"During the investigation, CBI arrested four persons, namely Mantu, Udai, Pinku and Sharvan Kumar, all residents of Katari village in Gaya, Bihar.
"They had all assembled near Circuit House, Gaya on the fateful intervening night of November 26/27, 2003. Around 3.30 AM on November 27, when Dubey was passing in front of Circuit House, Gaya in a cycle-rickshaw, the accused persons robbed him of his belongings and during the ensuing scuffle, Mantu shot him dead with a .315 country-made weapon," the statement said.
The CBI said a briefcase containing documents belonging to Dubey including his Identity Card were recovered from an abandoned well and also the country-made pistol were recovered during investigation.
The agency said Sharvan gave full and voluntary disclosure about the incident and was made an approver.

Satyendra Dubey: A forgotten hero?
Anand Mohan Sahay in Patna | November 27, 2006 20:31 IST
There was no formal function held in Patna and Gaya to remember whistleblower Satyendra Dubey on November 27, his third death anniversary. It was just another ordinary day.
In 2003, Dubey, a 31-year-old project director with the National Highways Authority of India, was shot dead near the Circuit House in Gaya after he exposed deep-rooted corruption in construction of the Golden Quadrilateral Project. The incident shocked the nation.
Dubey, a native of Bihar, was eliminated by people who feared that he will expose their corruption. It was proved beyond any doubt that Dubey was killed soon after he wrote a letter to the Prime Minister's Office and blew the whistle on the contract mafia.
Though he requested that his name not be made public, vested interests leaked his name.
When Dubey was killed, several promises and assurances were made to keep his memory and his cause of fighting against corruption alive.
But now it appears that Dubey's martyrdom was forgotten by people of his home state, if not others.
Soon after Dubey was killed, it was a readymade issue for politicians to blame each other to take some advantage out of it.
When Dubey was killed, the National Democratic Alliance was in power at the center and Rashtriya Janata Dal-led government was in power in Bihar.
But even after becoming Railway Minister in 2004, Lalu has not pushed the CBI probe into the killing of Dubey.
