Leading international car rental company Avis has become the designated car rental service supplier for World Expo 2010 being held at Shanghai between May 2010 and October 2010. This partnership ensures that visitors from India can get around the city hassle free. With more than 70 million people to converge this event, widely seen as the ‘Olympic Games’ of economy, Science and technology, it offers the chance for visitors and exhibitors to network on an international scale.

Sunil Gupta, CEO Avis India comments, “We are delighted to be an official partner of such an exciting and internationally renowned event. Avis is committed to fulfill the travel needs of its customers and we want to make it as easy as possible for attendees from India to navigate their way around Shanghai. Our chauffeur driven service will ensure people are able to enjoy the event without the stress of driving in a foreign country.”

As international drivers permits are not recognized in China and the traffic can be very unpredictable, Avis offers the fastest and most convenient way of traveling in China. It is also offering competitive rates during the World Expo on its chauffeur-driven rentals.

In preparation for the Expo, Avis has bought over 100 new vehicles, including brands from Buick to Audi and Mercedes Benz. It has also hired more than 100 additional chauffeurs. “This means that visitors can choose from a fleet of high quality vehicles which are driven by professionally trained and highly experienced drivers. What’s more, most of the chauffeurs can speak English, from basic to fluent, and customers can also access Avis’ bilingual call centre providing vital information on the city” further added Gupta.

Avis is supplying the Shanghai Foreign Affairs Office with 20 Mercedes Benz S600 for VIP guests and is also providing 25 new environmentally-friendly chauffeur driven Hybrid Smart cars to the exhibition’s Swiss pavilion. In addition to this, Avis has also partnered with Xinlv travel agency as part of a joint project to provide vehicles for guests at 30 five star hotels in Shanghai.

It is to be mentioned that World Expo has been running for 150 years, giving countries from around the world including India the opportunity to showcase their achievements and unique culture and to exchange ideas and developments on the world economy, culture, science and technology.

Highlights of this year’s World Expo include a Samba dance and football extravaganza at the Brazil stand, cable car ride at the Swiss pavilion, an Olympic corner in the UK area and a hip-hop act performance on the German Stand. Avis is also the official fleet sponsor of the Belgium pavilion, providing seven Buick GL8 and Lacrosses chauffeur drive services.

a.         Highly-reputed world-class peer-reviewed journal with Page Rank >7 (For e.g., Science, Nature, Macromolecules, Langmuir, etc.)                                     10

b.         Reputed peer-reviewed international journal with Page Rank >3 (e.g., Journal of Amer. Chem. Society)                                                                                              8

c.         Other international journal publications                                                          7

d.         International conference papers/presentations                                              6

e.         National journal publications                                                                              5

f.          National conference papers/presentations                                                       4

g.         Student conferences (1st/2nd/3rd Award receiver at any of the conferences at IITs, IISc, IT-BHU, NITs & other reputed Institutions)                                                          2

h.         Student Conferences (Others at any of the IITs, IISc, IT-BHU, NITs & other reputed Institutions)                                                                                                            0.5

2. The number of points will be determined by a sum of all the publications/presentations.

3. If there is a tie, the student who has maximum points according to the order of precedence will be awarded. For example, A has published in 1 international journal and 1 national journal, while B has presented in two international conferences; both have 18 points, but the scholarship goes to A.

4. Presentation implies oral presentation. Demonstrations, posters will be scored as

publication / presentation minus 1 point.

5. The order of the authors in a publication is not a criterion. If two or more students are involved in the publication all the students will be considered for scoring. In case of a presentation the presenter will be considered for scoring. The rest of the student authors will be awarded main presenter minus 2 points.

6. Same subject matter published/presented at multiple locations will not be taken into consideration. The student can determine which publication/presentation should be taken into consideration. If there is a significant development after the first publication/ presentation, please submit both the publications/presentations for consideration.

Award committee will decide which is taken into final scoring.

7. GPA is not a qualification and/or rate of measure for this award. All the decisions are made by the award committee and are final.

* - Even though the name suggests that the conference is international, the points are decided based on the Affiliated Association(s)/sponsor(s), number of attendees, number of presenters, location of conference, chair person(s) of the conference, etc. The decision of award committee on the merit of a venue will be final.
