The process for converting our institute to IIT is progressing as planned. As stated in the past issues, the Institute of Technology (amendment) Bill 2010 was introduced in the parliament on August 30. The bill includes 8 new IITs and conversion of IT-BHU to IIT-BHU.
There are still many of the administrative and legal formalities to be completed, before the Bill becomes an Act.
In the process for Bill turning into an Act, following milestones are yet to be achieved.
* The Standing Committee clears the Bill and the same is introduced in parliament (expected in November Session)
* The Bill is then approved by the Chairman of Rajya Sabha, who forwards it to the President of India for approval
* The President signs the Bill
* The passage of Bill is announced in the Gazette Extraordinary of Govt. of India.
Now we shall have to wait till parliament passes the Bill in the next session (Nov 9-Dec 13).
