New Delhi, Nov 26 (PTI) The HRD Ministry has decided to set up a panel to conduct an inquiry into allegations that a fake engineering institute was being run by an IIT-Kharagpur teacher adjacent to the IIT campus.
"The panel will submit its report within the next four months," said officials in the Ministry.
The move comes after the Central Vigilance Commission asked the Ministry to investigate the matter and submit a report.
Officials said a letter in this regards was received by the Ministry from CVC on Thursday.
Students of Institution of Electrical Engineers (IEE), the alleged fake institute, had lodged a complaint with IIT-Kgp director Damodar Acharya earlier accusing that they have been duped by A K Ghosh, the IIT teacher and former head of the Aeronautical Department.
Ghosh was accused of charging exorbitant fees from the students.
IIT-Kgp, which conducted an internal investigation thereafter, suspended Ghosh last month for violating the code of conduct of a faculty member for running the institute. A criminal case has also been filed against him.
IIT-kgp had clarified that it is in no way connected in either affiliating or recognising the degree or diploma of IEE.
