Her current area of research includes technological development of lipid based multiparticulate drug delivery system for modified drug release, enhanced therapeutic efficacy and improved patient compliance. For this, she has explored a technology called “Pastillation” for the first time in pharmaceutical field which has the potential to be used commercially as an option for line extension or preparing patent non-infringing formulations.

About Pastillation

Pastillation is a widely used technique in chemical, petrochemical and agrochemical industries for the solidification of dusty hazardous powders of chemicals into pastilles (hemispherical solidified units of uniform size) which eases their handling. In this process, the drops of chemical substances in molten state are deposited on a cooled stainless steel surface for rapid solidification to generate pastilles of uniform dimensions. Depending on the size of the drops and the physical properties of the melt, the drops flatten to a certain extent. The solidified droplet therefore, has the typical pastille-like shape. The production process can easily be carried out at large scale with the help of specially designed equipments called ‘Rotoformer’ as shown in Figure below.

ICGS 2010, an international conference focusing on recent developments on the frontier areas of Genomic Sciences will bring together a multinational body of scientists and experts to deliberate on global developments in various fields in Genomic Sciences and their applications in industrial, medical, environmental, food and agriculture sectors. It is planned as a major event to be held at Madurai during November 12-14, 2010 with a large number of active researchers from all over the world. It is envisaged that this conference would not only provide a unique platform to the participants from industries and academic institutions to share their thoughts and views to pave the way to develop possible linkages among them, but also serve the purpose of global networking among them and help in creating a nucleus of interface research.

Conference is aimed to cover genomic information on a wide variety of microorganisms including viruses. This conference also focuses on new technologies that are to be developed and improved: functional genomics, proteomics, and bioinformatics as well as more sophisticated experimental genetics, biochemistry, immunology, systems biology, mathematics and physics methods are included in this meeting.
