We are pleased to announce our Publication Scholarship Awards for the year 2011. The Award for the year 2011 is given under four categories: undergraduate (B. Tech), postgraduate (M. Tech), research scholar (PhD) and faculty. The award is being given to applicants who published their scientific/research papers in reputed national/international journals or at conferences.

The Publication scholarships are being awarded by the IT-BHU Global Alumni Association. The objective is to encourage students and faculty to publish more research papers in leading scientific journals. The Award was started last year.

We are sorry that the announcement for award was delayed this year, due to difficulty in selecting winners and other issues.  We hope to announce award in time in future.

Award selection process:

We received a total of 32 applications in prescribed forms after the scholarship was announced. All applications were scrutinized for completeness. Those who failed to provide required info about their published papers after reminders were disqualified. The short-listed (qualified) papers were then evaluated for awards.

The selection was based on quantity as well as quality of publications. The criteria were: number of papers published, number of papers in international journals (Elsevier, Nature, Springer, etc.) and at conferences, number of co-authors in each publications, diversity of publications (publishing in a variety of journals). Other quality marks were whether the paper was theoretical or research based, presented at conference by the author, etc.

It was a difficult task (particularly for papers by faculty), as the competition was high. In some cases, there was hardly any difference between the 1st prize and 2nd prize winner. Hence the total number of prizes in each category was increased from 5 (announced earlier) to 10, to cater to large number of qualified applicants.

We received only one application from postgraduate (M. Tech) category. We hope to receive more participation from them in future. Department of Pharmaceutical Engineering was well represented; with 8 out of 32 applications were from the same dept.

Prizes:

Each category has up to five 1st prizes and five 2nd prizes, provided the applicant meets some minimum criteria. The first prize is of Rs. 5,000 and second prize is of Rs. 3,000 each. Each award winner will receive cash prize, a memento/plaque and a certificate. The prizes will be distributed by April 2011. The announcement will be made in chronicle about it.
