Alumni meet at Bangalore on January 9-Report

The IT-BHU Bangalore Chapter Alumni meet was held on 9th January 2011 at the Farm house of Mr. Manthani.

It was a very good gathering representing alumni from 1960 to the recent batch of 2010. About 75 people participated in the alumni meet.

The key highlight of the meet was the cricket match which was played between the batch of 2010 Vs the Rest of the Alumni. Though the batch of 2010 played a good game but they eventually lost to Rest of the Alumni.

The other highlight was a skit presented by Bhoopalan, Rahul and Bipin which was liked by the Janta. The people also had a chance to hear the melodies from Satish and Bipin which was awesome.

Besides the entertaining session, alumni also gave serious thought to taking up projects that will benefit Students and alumni body at large. Discussions were held in three groups were created. Listed are groups with the action items.

Projects and Groups:

Group1 (Building Brand) Leader: Pankaj Vaish: Volunteers: Bipin Pande, Suman, Anurag Sharma, Praharsh, Gaurav Johri, Rohit Jaiswal

Gist of the discussion

1. To have brand equity at par with IIT through

a. Better PR

b. Acting as a pressure group

c. Achieve excellence in certain fields such as Metallurgy, Mechanical, Electrical, Ceramic, etc. in R&D or in industry

2. Value Based Education. IT is the only institution where it is being imparted

a. Propagating the values set by Pt. Madan Mohan Malviya

b. Having group of youngsters / professionals for this who can take it to rural masses

3. Cleaning of Ganges:

a. To pick one place of action e.g. Banaras

b. Act as a pressure group and to acquire more information

4. Cultural Activities:

a. We have had a great history; we have had champions in football, cricket, and basketball

b. We used to have very prestigious model exhibition

c. We have been good at fine arts and dramatics

Group 2 (Networking) Leader: Ashok Kumar Saxena, Volunteers: Avinash Agrawal , Volunteers: Rohit Jaiswal, Nitin Purwar, Praharsh Sharma, Gaurav Gupta, Abhinav Jain, Sonam Agrawal, Anup Sheshadri

Enlisting the problems:

1. Knowledge up-gradation / transfer to juniors as the leadership lacking in juniors

2. Laying more emphasis on sports and cultural activities as opposed to time wasting in net browsing

3. Career guidance to be given to juniors. Communicating to them the various options that are available

4. Interactions with seniors is lacking

Solutions suggested:

1. Improved online platform: Building a new one as the existing www.itbhuglobal.org is not very effective

2. Having a hierarchy of mentors – each batch to, say, 4 mentors

3. Hall Of Fame: to have a website showing the profiles of model achievers

To Do for Gaurav:

Getting four mentors from 2010 batch

Group 3 (Improvement of one Department) Leader: Sridhar Manthani Volunteer: Yogesh Gupta, Shashanka Bajpai, Rajmani Singh, Raja Ravi Krishna Katta, Praharsh Sharma,

All the three groups will meet on Feb 10, 2011 to take an account of activities done.

Among the other speakers, Mr. Maini and Mr. Chandramauli informed the group about the Madan Mohan Malaviya project. They expressed the gratitude to Mahamana Madan Mohan Malaviya ji. A book on Malaviya ji will be published and inaugurated soon.

Dr Chandra gave the importance on uniqueness of the IT-BHU as a part of BHU and the value based education.
