On 14th Feb. 2011, Abhishek Agarwal and Nikhil Pandey, two alumni of B. Tech (Civil Engineering-2008 batch) gifted books worth Rs. 50,000 in loving memory of their beloved friend and one of IT-BHU’s cherished student, AV Srinath Reddy. Srinath, a native of Hyderabad, was also a Civil Engineering student of the same batch who quit the course in VIIIth semester after detection of a brain tumor and subsequently breathed his last on April 17, 2009.
In a memorial function organized in Civil Engineering department, Abhishek and Nikhil, speaking for their batch, pledged their support to their alma mater while handing over the books. The Dean of Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Prof. G. N. Agarwal and Head of Department of Civil Engineering Prof. P. K. Singh were also present and accepted the books on behalf of the institute. The books would be especially useful to socially and economically underprivileged students of Civil Engineering. As said by the duo, “The gift not only shows the love and affection of all 39 students of the 2008 Civil Engineering batch, but also the unflinching commitment of ours for the betterment of our alma mater.”
The whole endeavor was a result of the efforts by Vikalp Aggarwal (B. Tech Civil 2008) and his friends over the past year. They connected with their batch mates and were able to purchase costly yet essential books with their support. The 103 handbooks cover a wide range of Civil Engineering disciplines such as structural analysis, highway engineering, building design, steel design, engineering geology, soil mechanics, fluid mechanics, airport planning and design, engineering hydrology, environmental engineering, etc. All of them have been authored by eminent Indian and foreign intellectuals. The books were delivered by current Civil Engineering students.
Recalling with watery eyes, both alumni shed light on a beautiful personality of Srinath Reddy.”He was a good student and a promising manager. He had an amiable personality and was the most fun-loving student of our batch,” they recounted.
Both Abhishek and Nikhil are assistant managers at Reliance Infrastructure Limited in Sasan (Madhya Pradesh). On the occasion of Valentine’s Day, the alumni have shown their affection towards their alma mater and departed friend in the most novel way and have set an example that will be remembered for years to come.
