Municipal hospital at Govandi, Mumbai is renamed after Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviyaji

 Our country is celebrating 150th birth anniversary of Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviyaji. As part of celebration, Municipal Corporation of Grater Mumbai has passed an order declaring municipal hospital at Govandi in north-east Mumbai to be renamed as “Late Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya Shatabldi Hospital, Govandi”. The executive order was issued on 1 November 2012 by the Secretary of the Greater Mumbai Municipal Corporation. The letter (in Marathi) is reproduced below.

This info was provided to us by Mr. Rahul Saxena (CSE 2006), volunteer of Bombay based BHU Alumni Association. The copy of the Municipal order was received by Mr. J K Jain (Mechanical 1968), President of BHU Alumni Association, Mumbai.

The date of inauguration of the renamed hospital is still not finalized.

 a) Prof. B B Bansal memorial Scholarship for children of non-teaching staff at our institute

In the Chronicle October issue, we announced the scholarship for the children of non-teaching staff at our institute. The scholarship provides up to 5 children a scholarship of Rs. 5,000 each based on their 2012 12th grade exam marks in UP State Higher Secondary Board/CBSE or equivalent exams.

So far we have received few applications, all from the non-teaching staff working in the dept. of Mechanical Engineering.  We also expect to receive applications from non-teaching staff at other depts. For this, the deadline for receiving application form is extended till January 15, 2013. The application pro-forma and rules/regulations are provided in the earlier Chronicle Issue:

b) Election for Council of Representatives (CoR Council)

The election for the Council of representatives was announced in Chronicle October issue. The Council is an important part of the structure of our alumni association (IIT-BHU Global Alumni Association) and contains class/dept. representatives from alumni and students. We have received sufficient number of applications from the students (thanks to our student volunteers) and the list will be finalized and announced in January.

In the month of January, we shall also announce the elections for the Board of Directors of our alumni association.

c) 2013 Publication Awards-announcement

We are pleased to announce Publication Awards for the students and faculty of our institute. The Award was started in 2009 and given out each year. There will be 3 first prize of Rs. 5,000 and 3 second prize of Rs. 3,000 in each of the 3 categories, undergraduate/postgraduate, doctorate/post-doctorate and faculty category.

d) 2013 Student Awards-announcement

We are pleased to announce Student Awards for the students of our institute. The Award was started in 2010 and given out each year. There will be 4 categories of awards: Leadership, Achievement, Academic and Volunteer Award. Each category will have five awards of Rs. 3,000 each.

e) IIT (BHU) ranked 5th in Dataquest 2012 Survey

IIT (BHU) has been ranked 5th among engineering institutes in India in just released Dataquest 2013 Survey. Please go to Reports page to view the details.

Obituary
Obituary of Shri Shiban Ji Raina Ceramic 1971)

Obituary

Shiban Ji Raina, ex-Director General NCBM and IT-BHU (1965-71) alumni, M. Tech Gold Medalist Ceramic Engineering, originally from Srinagar, Kashmir achieved NIRVANA on Marg Shukla Paksha Saptami  corresponding to Wednesday, 19th of December 2012 at 6:00 a.m.

 He was a recipient of:   ‘BEST Awards’ consecutively for five years (1965-70) in dramatics, BHU.

 Consolation prize-Industrial Models Exhibition 1971, BHU

 Best Poem Award –Navabhyanta Hindi Parishad, BHU 1967/1968

As Secretary Students Union he was deeply involved in social and extra-curricular activities and an ardent follower of the principles of Shri Madan Mohan Malaviya.

The 10th day KRIYA will be performed on Thursday 27th of December 2012 at Palla Ghat opposite Kanishka Towers Sector-37 Faridabad, Haryana
