We have one Chief Election Officer, one Deputy Chief Election Officer and seven Election Officers as follows:


  1. Gyan Bhatt (Civil 1958) India-Election Officer

  2. Anup bagla (Chemical 1977) India-Election Officer

  3. Shreeniwas Chandra (Mechanical 1978) India-Election Officer

  4. Jairaj Hegde (Electrical 1982) USA- Deputy Chief Election Officer

  5. Dr. Supten Sarbadhikari (Biomed PhD 1995) India-Chief Election Officer

  6. Vijay Kumar (Mining 1995) South Africa-Election Officer

  7. Arun Tripathi (Mechanical 1997) USA-Election Officer

  8. Prayut Bhamawat (Civil 2008) India-Election Officer

  9. Vikas Sharma (ceramics 2008) India-Election Officer


The selection was based on our announcement made on yahoo groups and a mail was also sent to all the alumni in database for election officer post; and all those who have shown interest have been accepted.

The election officers will be a part of our election team. The election team will formulate election rules, oversee elections and resolve any election dispute.

The election officers are appointed for a 3 year term, beginning immediately and ending on September 30, 2011.

The process of creation of the Council of Representatives would be guided by the following time line

Task Time Status
Call for Election Officer 2 weeks Notification sent on 09 Sep '08
Call for Class Representatives Rolling till 1st November
Election for classes that need Class of Representative to be elected 1 week
First Notification to the new Class of representatives 1.5 months from the start of the process

Criteria for selection

The Election Officers would be selected by the following process

  • Two to Five election officers are required to carry out the Election Process.
  • A general notification to the alumni community would be sent out to the alumni community to volunteer as election officer.
  • If more than 5 people volunteer the selection would be based on seniority and batch diversity

Responsibilities

The Election Officers would oversee the formation of the Council of Representatives and would be responsible for

  1. Notify the alumni community about various time lines and election procedures via the yahoo groups and the ITBHUGlobal.org alumni database.
  2. Connect with the alumni community to solicit nominations for the class representatives for each class
  3. If any class has more than one nominations the Election Officers would ask the class to pick one either by internal discussion or via election
  4. If a class chooses the route of election in step #3 - then the election officer oversees the election process of getting the election module set up for that class and communicating with the class how they can vote for their candidate.
  5. At the end of the election process the Election Officers report to the Board about the Representatives that have been elected / nominated to the new Council of Represenatives
