Convocation 2004

The Twenty Seventh Convocation of the Institute of Technology, (as a part of the 87th Convocation of the Banaras Hindu University) will be held on Friday,
October 08, 2004 at 3.00 P.M.

Dr. S. Varadarajan, FNA, FASc., Former Secretary, Department of Science & Technology, Govt. of India, Director General, CSIR, New Delhi and President, Indian National Science Academy, will deliver the convocation address.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR CONVOCATION FOR 2004 AWARDEES OF DEGREES, MEDALS/PRIZES.

1. Candidates for the award of degrees are requested to inform the Assistant Registrar (Academic), Institute of Technology on the proforma attached herewith, their intention to receive their degrees in person. These intimation should reach the office of the undersigned by 01.10.2004.

2. No addition to the list of presentees will be made after 01st October 2004.

3. Academic robes will be supplied to the candidates at the Institute of Technology, Director Office on Thursday, October 07, 2004 between 11.00
a.m. and 4.00 p.m. The Academic robes/gown will be issued on receipt of a Academic Robes fee of Rs. 500/= (Rs. 50/= gown charges and Rs. 450/= security money). Security money will be refunded after receiving the
Academic Robes back.

4. Arrangements will be made for refunding the security money and receiving back the Academic Robes from the presentees after the Convocation is over.

5. Those attending in person may please assemble in the Department of Chemical Engineering with their Academic Robes at 12.30 P.M. on 8th October 2004 for the formation of degree recipients procession for the Convocation hall. The procession will start at 2.00 P.M. from the Department of Chemical Engineering and students (graduands) who are late and who are not in Academic Robes will not be presented for award on the dais. They will have to collect the degrees/medals etc. only after the Convocation from the registry.

6. Degrees will be issued to the absentees on payment of prescribed fees after the Convocation on any working day by the Office of the Controller of Examinations, Banaras Hindu University.

KASHIYATRA 2005

KASHIYATRA, our annual All India Cultural Festival is back in all its glory and fervour. This academic session it has been planned for February,2005 (tentative dates:24-27 ).CROSSWINDZ, the Rock Fest will also be held as a part of KY, as done last year.

IT Guest House

The old building behind De Hostel (which had housed a post office) has been demolished. IT guest house will be built on that ground.

Donated by our own alumnus Mr.Modi Class of 79 who also donated funds for the Girls Hostel.

KASHIUTKARSH:A social movement of the students of IT BHU

Objectives:
- Imparting education: To children/adults of the slums.
- Awareness:About general health and hygiene.
- Self-help groups: To solve unemployment.
- Medical help.

Today after 7 years where do we stand:
-Areas of work:
-Lehartara
-Susuwahi(Harijan basti)

-Education:
-A school Lehartara:75 children.
-Susuwahi:7 students attending school regularly.
-Admissions:4 students in Navodaya & 2 in Central Hindu School.
-Mess workers are taught daily in the campus.
-Sponsored students:
-44 in Sarswati Shiksha Niketan
-35 in Gyan Sagar
-15 in Sant Ravi Das

-Medical Support:
-Open Heart Surgery:Pinky 6 yr old was treated for the hole in the heart at Narayan Hrudayalaya, Bangalore on 5th march'04(Total Expenditure around 1lakh)
-Brain Tumour:Manish a mess worker was operated in Varanasi
-Laxmi her burnt leg was treated (Expenditure 10,000).
-Medical Camps:Organized regularly with the support from IMS,BHU
(Last organized on 8th August 2004 at Lehartara).
-Blood Donation Camps:Last one was on 4th april'04 in GH
-Hepatitis B Vaccination camp:At Susuwahi,65 people were vaccinated (Jan-Aug'04)

-In house industries and production facilities (production of paper bags, candle making etc)
-Competitions regularly organized at the bastis.

-Regular Visits:
-8-10 students visit every weekend.
-Individuals go daily to susuwahi.

WHERE DOES THE MONEY COME FROM:

-Nearly all students of IT contribute Rs.10-100 per month.
-Pinky's Surgery(90,000):Alumni contributions.

After Pinky's successful treatment the expectations of the people from Kashi Utkarsh have increased we have currently two challenges:

-Open heart surgery of a mess worker.
-Mouth cancer of a carpenter from susuwahi.
