About AIBA Panel Discussion:
The Association of IT BHU Alumni (AIBA) has been active in the NCR since the last decade and represents the Who's Who of Indian industry, academia and government. Driven by the vision of the great Mahamana Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya ji, we have pledged ourselves to the monumental task of nation-building in these exciting times for India. We have been organizing several initiatives to bring thought leaders on a common platform so that the burning issues of the day may be discussed and debated, in the richest traditions of our pluralistically diverse and culturally rich heritage. In recent years, the AIBA Panel Discussion 2008-10 were on the subject's like "Elephants can Fly - Giving India the Wings of Change", "Making India's Educational System Accountable to India". Previous panel discussions had eminent speakers - from Shri Gurcharan Das, eminent thinker and writer to Prof. Pankaj Chandra, Director, IIM Bangalore, dissecting the challenges and opportunities before the nation. Mr. Mark Runacres, Former Deputy High Commissioner, British High Commission at New Delhi, had moderated the panel of speakers with his signature wit and humour.
TOPIC PREFACE:
The popular saying that goes "A Healthy Mind in a Healthy Body" has been applied usually to a human being, exhorting him/her to ensure a holistic state of well-being. We could extend this to a country and aspire that its communities and its people live in an environment that fosters mental and physical excellence. The India of today can be said to be suffering on most counts - Poverty, malnutrition, inequity, illiteracy are some grave indicators of a nation that is outwardly rising and shining, but internally crumbling and falling apart. Most experts argue that the insidious cancer of corruption is hollowing out the country's health and wealth, and making the lives of the ordinary citizens very difficult. The massive response recently received by the Anna Hazare movement for addressing this critical issue is the backdrop against which the Association of IT BHU Alumni, New Delhi is organizing this thought provoking panel discussion. Indeed India can be said to be battling against this widespread cancer, and there is an almost well accepted cynicism, even amongst the most optimistic citizens, that a cure may be impossible.
The panel constituted for the discussion will analyze the current situation in terms of the social, economic, political and ethical dimensions of the problem, and brainstorm over possible solutions to it. It shall bring together a diverse set of opinions and perspectives on the same platform, and shed light on this dark challenge faced by the country.
